I started playing EVE less than a month ago and have decided that the 2 things I want to do are the quick transports (Blockade runners) and I want the Scorpion Battleship (that thing is sexy time to look at). having made these conclusions I'm lookign for some guidance and or links to guides/ship builds/anything like it for those 2 concepts.

I started looing at the ECM list via the market but that mostly left me even more confused. I think I understand how some of the jamming works but... an in-depth guide would really help.

Blockade runners seem to be pretty simple many skill ranks in (faction here) industrial and transport ships and all the supporting skills to get there in addition to cloaking skills. then outfitting is bassed on how dangerous the space is. I would still like to hear from the pros on what is suggested for a top tier 'runner fitting. it should give me something to aima at. I'm currently training for caldari since that is my faction.

If you're looking at jamming I wouldn't recommend hopping into a Scorpion right away. Being a competent PvPer is not just about your fit or your skill points. Your piloting skills (or, experience) also matter a ton, and the only way to gain those is, well... via experience and dying a lot. That can be expensive in a battleship.

Start out with a Griffin or a Blackbird (the frigate and cruiser variants on the Scorpion). I've got a pretty in-depth explanation of how ECM works on my blog, if you're interested. For fits, check Battleclinic to get inspired, then create your own using Pyfa or EFT, with your own skills imported, then check in with the fit here in ships and modules, or ask friends in game about it.

So far as blockade runners, the skills you want to train in addition to being able to sit in the ship are your navigation skills, ability to fit a variety of low slot hauler modules (expanded cargoholds, nanofiber internal structures, inertia stabilizers, warp core stabilizers), and ability to fit a minor tank. I don't fly Crane myself, but I'm guessing a basic fit looks like this:

Quote:
[Crane, Basic Crane]

Covert Ops Cloaking Device II

Experimental 10MN MicroWarpdrive I
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
EM Ward Amplifier II

Expanded Cargohold II
Expanded Cargohold II

Medium Cargohold Optimization I
Medium Cargohold Optimization I

Make sure you are also familiar with the cloak-MWD trick if you plan to fly cloaky stuff.

Thanks for the Ton of info! I am pulling up the link to the Cloak trick you spoke of now. and I doubt that I could get into and stay in a scorpion for very long with out a decent corp to help out a bit (after reading a lot) but it is still my goal as of now.

It seems like jamming is really hit or miss with the large disparity between scanner str and jamming str. Is this me miss reading the information, finding bad informatio, or is it just something to work around? I assume it is still viable since the first post wasn't a flame.

thanks for the 'runner info. I only picked crane since it's my faction 'runner so it seemes to be the easiest to get into. If there is a better 'runner available I'm not opposed to cross-training into another factions ship.

Crane doesn't really offer much (except that you more or less pick one up on the way to an Obelisk). Viator gets better cargo and along the way picks up the Iteron V. Prorator gets the largest cargo or the fastest align due to the many low slots. Prowler has the lowest cargo capacity (and is the only blockade runner that can't carry a packages cruiser) but in exchange it gets an additional high slot, which is great if you need to probe from your hauler.

ECM is indeed very viable, and possibly the most popular form of electronic warfare. It is also chance-based, but you have to keep in mind that when that chance hits, the target ship becomes almost utterly useless. Other electronic warfare relies around making ships conditionally useless (e.g. tracking disruptors break the tracking or range of guns, but that can be mitigated), whereas ECM is a sort of "final word" on making your enemies useless. The only thing they can do is pre-emptively fit ECCM (which gimps most ship fittings) and hope the dice roll in their favor.

If you get to be a good ECM pilot, you may get a lot of hate for it because of this. Heck, I may even be one of the people hating on you, if you end up jamming me out forever. P
