CCP- New Drone Damage Mod Should be high slot. Buff Gallente

Dear CCP -

From my understanding, the new Drone Damage Mod is going to be a low slot mod. While this mod will certainly be useful to Gallente hulls, it will also mean we have to sacrifice either an armor or a damage mod in order to use it.

I would rather the mod be a high slot so we don't have to sacrifice a low slot for it. It would be a slight buff to Gallente ships...something many of us have been yearning for .

I don't normally give away free advice but in this case I shall make an exception:

Sssshhh... you really haven't thought this one through.

I want heatsinks to be medium slot. Amarr ships shouldn't have to choose between damage and tank.

I think titans should be allowed in highsec to mine. Afterall, that is what titans are used for, right?

Belt ratting or smart bombing on gates.

See, this is why we need to have images back on the forums.

No amount of text is adequate to describe the amount of facepalm required for this thread — we need to that “more than a thousand words” multiplier.

I want to be able to use SB's, and normal Bombs on Jita Undock.

In any case, it's a damage mod. I have to choose between Magstabs and Armor when not relying on Drones, or in support of them.. This is no different.

Hell Even other races need to make the choice between Damage Mods, Armor, or Boosts to Shield Recharge, etc.. It's always got a tradeoff.

I may be missing something but aren't drones the only weapon with a highslot mod that increases range?

That is drone control range.

Drone optimal and tracking are midslots (omnidirectional tracking link)

It doesn't really increase range — that's what the Omnidirectional Tracking Link does (midslot).
The Drone Navigation Computer is more like a sensor booster. It being a highslot item isn't any more strange than, say, autotargeters being highslot items.

Drone optimal beyond control range is pretty useless as control range caps what you can engage. Never said it was the only thing affecting their envelope of engagement, but an important one in a slot that other weapons don't have such an enhancement in.

Kinda, more going for that drone mods don't totally follow the way weapon enhancements work, not that a highslot damage mod doesn't raise other issues.

Edit: To clarify, absolute range you can engage with drones is drone control range, so likening to a sensor booster I can see, but auto targeting systems don't enhance range (I think?).

Buff forums!

As a drone user, there's nothing I'd like more than to have a drone damage mod in highs (Dear God, think of the Pilgrim!), however, my conscience wins out on this one Sad

I like to lick things.

Haunting the forums since 03.

Not really. For sentries, having that extra buffer when they can still damage a target is hugely useful.

Sorry to derail, but I'm not sure I'm understanding. How do you get them to engage targets beyond drone control range?

You don't, but they can keep hitting targets that fly outside of that range, or you can drop the drones, fly close enough to the target to tell the drones to attack, and then go about your business elsewhere.

Just because the drones are 100km away from the target doesn't mean you have to be 100km away from it.
