Going to break this down since I'm addressing a few things :

ONE.

When is the EVE Chronicles going to get a proper portal entry on the main page? If I recall it is currently just "hardcoded" into the Popular articles page which is a bit lame.

I noticed you have the "Item Database" - "Chronicles" at the top left of the EVElopedia, which I thought - COOL, maybe they did add something. And then I see :

Quote:
Visit the Chronicle Portal
(previous 200) (next 200)
Subcategories

Why? Make it link straight to the Portal!!! Pirate

Also the EVE Chronicles main page could still use something to grab you in my opinion. I discussed at least breaking down the area with a menu with a few images to make it more inviting.

I think something as simple as this will do the trick :

TWO

Finally, I realized something about going to read the last Pax Ammaria article which really struck me about the ability for me to truly ENJOY the article.

Simply : the font size of the Wiki articles really aren't good for reading large amounts of literature.

If you simply look at the font size of the old website (I can't find all the old chronicles in the archives with all their awesome images)

AS AN EXAMPLE : http://community.eveonline.com/community/quotes.asp

The font size is big and juicy, very inviting and wants you to dig into it.

Meanwhile, the font size on the wiki articles makes me strain and wince to read large blocks of text. I actually went in and just manually increased the font size of the article content Div (keeping the rest of the fonts the same size, and not forcing me to
use zoom mode) and it looks SOOO much more inviting to sit down and read.

Can you look into implementing this? There are many ways to override the wiki default styling for certain pages.

---

I've always always enjoyed the EVE Fiction, but I find it very hard to get into lately with its current implementation. I just don't get excited to go over there and read it because of some of the things I mentioned above. Although the loss of custom art is a necessary evil, the ability to use existing chronicle art and touch somethings up around the portal shouldn't be a problem.

Hope you found this productive, I really want to come back to enjoying the chronicles, I just find them tucked away in a corner which I find could be more welcoming to the reader.

Good point; I'll push for changing the Chronicles button so that it points directly to the portal.

As for any other changes: We've outgrown the wiki already, in my opinion, and us fiction guys have recently been meeting with web design people in order to see what we can do about it.

In short, the lore and chronicles repositories are such valuable tools that we want to make something more out of them (aside from just adding new content), and that means we're entering what'll likely be a long, quiet redesign phase. Emphasis on "long" - there won't be any news on this for many months, but we eventually plan to make these sites a lot more fluid and interactive than they are. Until then, we'll likely stick with the design we have, or something like it.

Excellent news.

As much as I love the Evelopedia, and it was a noble attempt to have them there, having a special way to deliver those awesome pieces of fiction to us in a way that makes us excited to read them would be awesome.

Integrating the design process back with the Community site would probably be the most efficient way. Or maybe you want a whole subdomain committed to Chronicles/Fiction? Big smile

Either way, allowing a tagging system and keywording of the chronicles (Amarr, Technology, Pirate, Jamyl Sarum, 2003, yc610) for example. Then you can tag to your hearts content any meta data and filter by all keywords or combinations on search.

(Amarr Technology 2004), (Gallente Politics), (Caldari Society), etc.

This would be a lot less stressful than the current cataloging on your team/volunteers I'm sure.

Anyways, thanks for the tidbit of information. Best of luck in the design process!
