Since there seems to be some confusion about this issue I did some calculations and posted them in a new thread: Grouped weapons and DPS: Theory, mechanics and math, some examples and fun facts.

A tachyon boat will see +9% DPS by splitting turrets in two groups and killing multiple targets that die in three volleys, besting the most expensive implants in game.

And below is DPS calculated for 2, 4 & 8 turret groups as the percent of a single group of turrets for various gun rate of fire (ROF) and target staying power in number of volleys (N).
