Where are they? I keep hearing a whole lot about how Hulkageddon directly targets noobs, but I've never seen anyone who has been playing for less than a month in a hulk. (Unless they were in nullsec).

actually... the reason why you don't see them - is because it takes like 1½ month to train for a Hulk.

New players who don't understand game mechanics are newbies.

Old Players who don't are noobs.

I'd assume in this case noob is defining amount of experience they have in game in total rather than age of character.

The bad thing about the skill system and plexes, I can learn to fly almost anything without having to spend any time playing other than to log in and select click skills to learn.

New players who buy hulk toons are fools.

Maybe because a month isn't enough time for training all skills needed for Hulk. Roll

Well yeah. So what defines a newbie? Or a noob? I would think that if I person is in a Hulk, they should have spent enough time in game to at least understand the risks involved in flying a ship in space.

So how is Hulkageddon preying on morons who fly Hulks a bad thing?

I'm not sure the suicide new player mission and the mission where the rats kill you really counts as preparing for anything really, the foundation that the SA and Reddit community players get through being introduced to the game by Goons and TEST are massively better than what the average player gets discovering the game themselves.

Exactly. And if they don't, they are noobs.

A lot of miners are considered noobs. Heck mining was the first thing I started doing in EVE back in 06. The reason for this is the low training time. In a year you can have perfect mining skills while flying an orca or hulk. I have spent the last year solely with combat skills on this character and I am a long ways from perfection.

Something clever

Then how is killing their poorly fitted pure-income Hulks a bad thing? It's not our fault they are mentally deficient.

TO max out your hulk with uh, Exhumers V and the T2 Strip Miners with T2 crystals is how many months? Add more for the tank you might forgot in order to mine better and fitting skills.

Does it take a whole year? Orca might be longer, but I don't think a whole year?

Yeah, I know this. I'm a nullsec miner. I've lost plenty of ships in stupid ways. There really should be a mandatory hardening up period in the NPE.

Ergo Hulkageddon.

And, to make it more clear, here's the definition of noob vs newbie that I've found to be most consistent and widely accepted.

A newbie is a player who doesn't know much about the game, but they're willing to learn and want to figure things out.

A noob is someone who thinks they know what they're doing, but doesn't really, and has decided that they're right and everyone else is wrong.

Both newbies and noobs come in all ages, I've seen very old players who are newbies in certain areas because they simply never went in that direction before and I've seen very young noobs who were sure that they were doing everything right and that they were supposed to be safe in highsec and all. Age doesn't matter much, just willingness to learn and have an open mind.

Speaking of which, why are miners so obsessed with flying a Tech 2 ship with a 300 million ISK price tag, and then putting such little effort into keeping them alive?

Tech 2 isn't a standard thing in mission running and pvp except for rather wealthy players, and any who do use them are going to take damn good care to keep them alive.

I don't take much effort to keep mine alive. I have a terribly thin tank and the most I have is Nozzle Joint rigs.

I'm a noob... But I know that I can be ganked everytime I undock. And I know a lot about highsec aggression mechanics.

So what makes you a noob, then?

K maybe not T2 frigs, but they're cheaper than most T1 hulls so it doesn't count.
