Thanks for the response, Greyscale.

While I'll have to disagree with you in regards to the Amarr-being-stereotyped-lately thing, that is a discussion for another thread. I will make clear, though, that this is not something I feel to be endemic to CCP but rather limited to several specific fiction pieces, which for various reasons have come to dominate the greater EVE storyline and RPers' consciousness in the last few years.

As for this specific story, it appears that Poe's Law was in full effect here, and I'm glad that my suspicion that this was not to be taken seriously was confirmed.

Bitterness aside, thanks to Greyscale for writing a chronicle about himself and for recognizing the importance of collector items.Smile

The best bit is that I made the Pax Ammaria the week before that patch went out Smile

Sure, sure, sure.... I think... John Stewart make last night my point (see here)....

[1] ones about inside jokes and the problem which they bring for the other viewer/readers (Those with less informations)Lol...

[2] and of course poe´s law... about captain Kirk P.... and yes you can use Peo´s law and give full information (damn you Stewart P) P; like Stewart did with his "your were thinking I use it to create humor, NO".

By the way... that Stewart has does skills.... Ehm... does it make Stewart more "brit style"?P

P.S. Still search for this problem: here.

I would love to have those classes ingame. See here:

So this positing that in recent years the Amarr have been reduced to evil cavemen is quite simply wrong. What I'm seeing instead is a fear from certain corners - and this isn't the first or second thread where it's popped up - that their roleplaying favorites will be cheapened with the addition of levity, humor, and other tones than somber, gloomy reverence.

To be fair, most of the concern has not come as response to your writing or the other sources you've commented on. The big fear is over other, more public and advertised, sources. Levity and humor aren't the concern, it's when the levity and humor fail to translate that issues can occur (ohgodpunintended).

Given that example, I for one don't blame people for jumping the gun (so-to-speak) with new content that seems to fly in the face of established canon (hehehe).

Greyscale writes in a wonderfully British style, tongue firmly planted in cheek. He's describing orbital strikes against settlements accused of harboring a book. When you read something like that, you need to consider that you may not be expected to only take it literally. After all, if your aim is to see nuance, you need to accept that sometimes your faction will be the source of some of the greatest questions (and hopefully answers) known to Man in New Eden, and sometimes they're just going to do something crazy.

It reminded me of an old man sitting in a bar, after having too much to drink, in classic British accent, recounting something akin to a HHGTTG entry. In fact, wasn't there an entry in one of the books about a misprinting of the HHGTTG itself...

Now, the problem is that the Amarr as a faction are officially and canonically a f*cking joke. Not just irredeemably evil for the sake of evil, but actually stupid and moronic.

Now, It's not actually possible to be a sane individual and still support the Empire.

Those of us who have been doing so for the better part of a decade sure do feel silly now, don't we?

God knows I favor active storyline discussion, but yes, that was a bizarre comment you made and you should feel incredibly silly.

Within six months after TEA, a dozen long term Caldari RP corps had vanished, with 60 or so of my fellow Caldari RPers who'd been around since 2004 unsubbed for good and The Fourth District alliance (Super hardcore Caldari immersionist ) dropped role play completely.

I think Graelyn just might be on to something. It's just really hard to care about the story line somedays, even when we really want to.

My advice would be, instead of retconing things that have been around since 2003 on a whim, like Pax Amarria and Kaalakiota owning Caldari Funds Unlimited, and have become deeply ingrained into many characters personal stories (and not just characters but entire blocs within the RP community)...start undoing all the retcons in TEA. The old stuff isn't what's broke.

A most relevant discussion centered around some of the topics discussed here. Storyline devs should pay close attention to this one.

Fleet Captain of the Praetoria Imperialis Excubitoris

Divine Commodore of the 24th Imperial Crusade

Lord Consort of Lady Mitara Newelle, Champion of House Sarum and Holder of Damnidios Para'nashu

I've been gone for way too long. Can I just pretend nothing changed? It's not as if anyone ever talks to me IC anyway. ;)

(Though if someone could redirect me to .. oh shoot. If Amarr History is this messed up, maybe its best to stay lost in space for awhile? Direct me to the OLD stuff, and then I can make a decision on the Empress' 'decrees' from deep space? >.<)

"I say that even as the holy and the righteous cannot rise beyond the highest which is in each one of you - so the wicked and the weak cannot fall lower than the lowest which is in you also.  And as a single leaf turns not yellow but with the silent knowledge of the whole tree, so the wrong-doer cannot do wrong without the hidden will of you all."
