Most memes don't start on 4chan either. And there are plenty of in-jokes and original content within each reddit community. The nice thing about the site is that the crap sinks very quickly while the good stuff rises to the top - it's the entire point of the karma system.

Upvote/Downvote to a degree is the same as age/sage on 4chan. The difference is that 4chan has no logins and karma and it will age unless you specify otherwise when posting.

The meme flow right now seems to be:

b3ta/4chan/somethingawful/worth1000/fark > reddit/digg > tumblr/twitter > facebook > 9gag/fukung > the rest of the internet > email chain letters your mum sends you.

Preferred nomenclature dude!

Idea

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Titans on fire outside "The Alamo" of NOL-M9. I watched massive Super Capital fleets glitter in the dark near the BKG-Q2 gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain...  Time to die.

reddit's sorting algorithm is pretty intricate, I still haven't fully figured out all of its details - but post "values" do decay invisibly, and then there is the fact that the default sorting is "what's hot". logins can be a blessing and a curse - you get karma whores, and then you get celebrity users. feel like asking wil wheaton, felicia day, or zach weiner a question? they reddit too, among dozens of others.

I've always seen reddit as a pretty good filter for the internet. It is very, very good at getting the hottest news (people were talking about osama bin laden's death before the media, and the zerg rush google search a day before the rest of the net), or random interesting facts / sites, along with tons of hilarity. this is entirely due to the sheer volume of submissions, the user-side filtering (subscribed subreddits), and the karma system (big news / awesome stuff gets upvoted FAST).

Yeah really. Because I'm sure there is a good reason our English teachers told us NOT to use Wikipedia as a reference. Also I love how racists are always the first ones to ***** about "political correctness" or as some of us like to call it, "having some ******* respect."Lol

Wikipedia is great, read it then spend the 5 seconds it takes to read the source, I always laugh when people say Wikipedia is unreliable, sure it is, anything is even books!! I think schools need to educate people better on how to fact check.

Or as I like to call it "using an arbitrary term to refer to someone or a group of people instead of using their name or their preferred method of being addressed/referred to"

It's a new construct for an archaic practice. It has absolutely nothing to do with respect. It's simply a shortcut.

Cheers.

Also I'm in the minority who loved DS9 more than TNG and considers Sisko the best captain.

The otaku ones do. Then you also got the ones that have moved there on permanent basis, more than you think (when it comes to gamers anyway.)

Here's a more serious example of why I consider Sisko and DS9 to be top dogs.

How many Japanese players would use Kanji when the English alphabet is all the rage there?

It's kind of funny, really. You've got a large segment of both western and eastern cultures that think everything on the other side is cooler.

oh, I don't know, why don't you talk to your friends in kanji english? Roll

its a horribly clumsy way to communicate using another language's alphabet.
