It's a good game, but I can't say I love it.

6/10 / Above average...but nowhere near real pvp games like SC2, sorry Blink

EvE has some nice drama and hard emoz tied to it though.
The youtube clip with some player yelling "armor hacs!" comes to my mind... /facepalm

Because you can make a difference.

Alot of MMO's advertise your actions matter, but in the end it isn't, nothing ever truly changes, especially as they're all sharded.

Eve however is different, it matters truly, and I've experienced it first hand, mostly in little things, but sometimes you matter in the big ones, and that stays with you, knowing you affected the lives of many people around the globe, knowing you were part of that.

When you play EVE you play it to do a thing that you like doing, rather than to infinitely grind for better gear to use while grinding for better gear.

i like EVE because it's the only mmo that has managed to hold my attention for more than 2 years. my 3rd eve birthday is coming up in october and after all this time, i don't feel like i've even scratched the surface. there are so many things to do in game, that i can see myself subbing for years to come.

oh, and i like pvp...a lot. Big smile

What I like about EvE is this. I'm kind of a weasel in real life. Short, Skinny, Stupid looking, balding. You get the picture. But when I get behind the terminal, and log on, I get to be a real world, (al Bet Eve world) Bad ass. This game is priceless.

Eve:
It's full of evil sick sadistic bastards who are out to get you, and anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to scam you or get close to you to take advantage of you.

WoW:
Oh that looks difficult, don't worry we'll patch that and make it easier so it's easy for you. Afterwards lets all sing kumbaya.

Hello Kitty Online:
Isn't this a expansion to WoW?

I think this about sums it up for me as why I picked Eve.

Welcome to Eve. Everyone here is an Evil Sick Sadistic Bastard who is out to get you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to scam you or use you.

EvE is the best game for true adventuring. It is all people everywhere, and in 0.0 it is only people. People can make the adventures not so dull. You never know what they will do. They could catch you in a spider bubble and destroy you or they could bump you so hard you go spinning for twenty kilometers!

The gameplay I find quite boring actually, what makes up for it is the way they let you play the game and interact with people! Although it seems like most people do not even enjoy talking in the game, maybe on the forums!

Either way it has only gotten better c:

Edit: And reward! Reward is dumb without risk! There is a reason we all like to build sandcastles close to the water! >:3

after some nice and helpful gentlemen here repeatedly adviced me to go to Hello Kitty Online and I realized that it was free to play, I actually gave it a try (heck, I always thought this was a joke from South Park, never believed that something like this could really exist- more faith in humanity lost).
I have to admit, HKO beats Eve in two aspects:
1. much smaller client, no lags at all
2. you start in a single room- and the door is actually working and you can leave this room! (I know, sounds incredible)
proof

That being said, the distinct lack of spaceships and inability to ruin other players' days quickly drove me back to eve (tried to camp a door for several hours- but even though you start with an axe in your inventory, you can only use it to chop wood, not to gank other players-how lame)

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

It's because of the amazing PVE content.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAaaaa...

Ok, it's because it lets you mess with people in ways many other games wouldn't dream of.

Post with your monkey.

Top reasons I can think of currently:

- single server
- player driven market (I'm trader. Cool)
- API (and all the 3rd party apps)
- skillpoint system (realtime, no grinding)

EDIT: And the possibility to play for free.

I have to call BS on number 2, if CCP can't make a door work than no one can. Heck even the doors to my General Lee doesn't work I have to jump through the window.

I love it because I don't feel like I'm being babysat and lead places when I'm playing.

That is I'm not "oh, if I grind here, I can get to that next zone, which means I can grind, to get to the next zone"

I like Eve because it's the only MMO I currently know of that has potential.

Never played another MMO except for some UO years back as well as some MMOs betas, but never signed up for them when they were actually released.

To me, lots of Eve's unique features are now absolute must-haves for an MMO:

- Single Shard
- No parallel instancing
- Player driven market
- Time-based skills progression
- (somewhat) meaningful loss
- The possibility of loss anywhere, anytime when undocked
- Complexity (could be more though)
- Graphical style not looking like it was taken from some cartoon series designed for squalid yobbo kids

If any of these requirements are not met, my interest in an MMO drops rapidly - if one or two are not met, I may sign up for a beta key and check it out, otherwise, I deem it not worth looking at.

Having that said, there's lots of room for improvement (a purpose for small gangs, isk faucet vs. sink rebalancing, nullsec revamp etc..etc...), but Eve's unique position is enough to keep me subscribed, especially with the devs working on the game again - we'll see - maybe I'll eventually even really play it again.
