So today after first. 1 patch before i even see the launcher then after updating the launcher of eve to then of course have a patch for the actual game. "Yay i get to play" finaly i thought, NO you need to download another patch after hitting the log in screen, sorry if i misread everything about the new launcher but wasnt the point of the launcher in order to streamlining and do all the patching before getting to the game cause atm it just seems more a waste of space and just another screen to get through to get into the game.

The launcher allows them to patch indvidual files in the eve folder rather than monolithic client builds, basically if they need to change or hotfix something small it's much easier for them to do it.

Yes because it is a better pattern than they had before and gives room for announcements, better feel to starting to play eve, better patching and other ideas that may come up in the future. Most games now use this UX pattern.

The launcher is a work in progress, and it's a step forward from what we used to have.
I agree that the three separate things you need to do now sometimes (1-launcher patch, 2-restart launcher to get game patch, 3-restart game after final client patch) is not the best of situations, but as with any work in progress, it will most likely keep getting better, and hopefully end up in a single player click to total client updating.

These punks and their complaints of having to click OK more than once for a patch...

In my day, we had to download the patch from an ftp site, re-read the man pages on rar compression, copy the files by hand to the right place, and then hope it worked!

And if that failed, we had to dig up the old floppies, hope they still worked, and reinstall 1 disk at a time, uphill, both ways!

And we LIKED it!

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

It's pretty crap and impressively resource hogging. I just disable it and never open the client from it.

However I am excited to see it turn into the new voice client for eve online. So when the games crashes you'll still be in chat. That's pretty cool.

the only problem is that now copypasting the eve folder does not work.

The launcher is very useful. It allows you to update the game without having to go through the lengthy process of starting the client, logging in, letting the client close and then starting up the update.

It also makes it practical for CCP to quickly fix any bugs rather than wait for the next major update to handle it.

Sad

I don't know what is going on with this launcher, but it needs to change fast. Every couple of days all response to an access attempt ceases, and the only repair seems to be a cache repair which provokes an entire game re-installation. This is getting Brutal.
