malediction, raven, heretic, etc... what ammo/damage type do you load first?

Of the ships that provide generic bonuses to damage or no bonus, what ammo/damage do you usually load when you first head out?

Or another way of looking at this, sat you are gate camping in a similar ship. You don't know what is coming through. What ammo or damage type would you have loaded?

For me, I tend to favor thermal but that's probably a bad choice.

NEVER gate camp when you don't know whats coming through.

Now to answer your question, I actually think thermal is the best choice in general. Most people overtank the EM/EXP hole...and thermal/kin are forgotten about. If you don't know the ships you're fighting I would go for thermal.

I go for the cheapest or most plentiful of my faction ammo. That ends up being therm or exp.

Thermal is not a bad choice.

However, another way to do it is to load the ammo that is most effective vs the toughest ships that you are willing to fight.
Because those are the ships you can least afford to waste time reloading before fighting.

For example there are 3 classes of ships that can come through:
Ships you cannot beat and should not fight - don't bother loading ammo to fight those, just prepare to run
Ships you want to fight but are the toughest to beat - this is what you should load for
Ships you beat easily - even if you loaded something else, you have time to change to ammo as you are good vs these ships.

Thermal is a good choice, then adjust when able based on target ship type.

I tend to fit EM and Therm because I like shooting at shield tanks with missiles.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

I normaly go by range... depending on gate size, fleet comp, bubbles, my own ship ect. After that theres normally not much choice

Depends what else you're with.

If I'm flying with a couple of Mega's and an Abaddon then Kin/Therm are well covered by the 'throns and EM by the 'baddon. That leaves Explosive so best to load Fusion.

If I'm flying with a bunch of Minmatar ships or Ravens then the gang can cover all damage types so I'll check what ammo the FC wants me to bring/what ammo everyone else is bringing.

Wow lots of people with therm, I've always felt this is the worst damage to bring.
