Sup,

Okay, yes, this is another newbie thread on Wormholes...now that's aside:

So I see that raiding C3 WHs can be very profitable. However I know almost nothing about conducting an operation into a WH, so it'd be great if the experts here could offer me some insight, as to what ships, fitting, tactics, and general situations to watch for.

I know that Legions and other strategic cruisers and do the job extremely well, but for my first time I would rather keep the risk low (I don't want to lose my 500+ mil isk ship just yet). So can battlecruisers do it? If so, what and with what fittings?

I appreciate your time

Bring friends to live in wh space. And alts as scouts.
Not sure you can solo a c3 with a bc. You'd need a team.
Like 2-4 (old) drakes and a scimitar. Then when you get a c4 you can do sites there as well.

Wormholes have the best accoustics. It's known. - Sing it for me -

im not ready to commit to living in a WH just yet. I see a lot of people just solo C3 sites no problem. And I also hear that a Zealot or a Gila could do it.

Any truth to that?

Drake, Myrm, Gila could technically survive C3 anoms with very good skills, idk about Zealot but problem with all these ships that it will terribly slow and tedious because of their low dps resulting from the need to max passive tank them. You need to be recalling your drones periodically to prevent them from being eaten. Ok, might not sound bad but you not only make poor isk, you also expose yourself to attacks for very long times.

C2 anoms would be much better, or get a Tengu, which really excels in wspace PVE. I hate the ship, but it's so much better than anything else for sleepers that it's a bit absurd.

Next issue in roaming true solo is salvaging. You need to salvage sleepers to make it profitable, the blue loot is worth isk but it's about half of what you could make. While you can fit a salvager or even two and tractors on the drone boats, the wrecks tend to be spread all over the field, making the process once again terribly slow. And you really need all the dps.

The danger of (true) soloing in w-space is that you have absolutely no means to know if there is a gank squad 20km off you. If you are in a system larger than max dscan range, a new wh can be spawn where you can't see, squad enters and suddenly external factors prevent you from warping, and you travel back in your pod, or by clone express.

Iron Maiden spent a lot of time in wormholes, and wrote a popular song about it:

Fear of the dark, fear of the dark
I have a constant fear that somethings always near
Fear of the dark, fear of the dark
I have a phobia that someone's always there

Of course, nothing's impossible. Fit a cloak, be aligned and unless they have a stealth bomber to snag you or fail to bump you off alignment, just warp away and cloak up. And sometimes when a system appears empty, it is empty and you can bear your heart out.

right on. that was very helpful info.

so maybe i'll start looking into C2s first, get my bearings, and then attempt C3s in strategic cruisers.

cheers

Zealot can do it. I did it in my pre-Legion days to test it out. I wouldn't advise it though, it's so slow that it's hardly worth the effort.
