Hey there,

I am looking for a Galente ship that has to meet my requirements. I would like to do level 4 missions in the future and to explore various sites (ladar/radar and so on).
First off I prefer to use Drones, Hybrid guns and the ship needs to tank with it's armor. I've heard good stories about the Ishtar and Dominix and I don't know which one to choose. Perhaps you guys can convince me to choose a different type of galente ship that I haven't thought of to suit my needs.

Ishtar for exploration, Dominix for missions.

Does anybody have a nice fitting for the Isthar?

For exploration? I used this for combat sites in Blood Raider low sec (which is definitely not the best place to be in an Ishtar, but it works surprisingly well):

[Ishtar, exploratoin]
Medium Armor Repairer II
Armor EM Hardener II
Armor Thermic Hardener II
Damage Control II
Capacitor Power Relay II

Omnidirectional Tracking Link I
Omnidirectional Tracking Link I
10MN Afterburner II
Cap Recharger II
Cap Recharger II

Salvager I
Prototype Cloaking Device I
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Multifrequency S
[empty high slot]
[empty high slot]

Medium Sentry Damage Augmentor I

Garde II x5
Curator II x5

Up against Guristas or Serpentis, the tank on a similar setup goes through the roof.

Zhilia's fit is pretty standard. Here is what I use in Guristas' space:

[Ishtar, Ishtar copy 1]
Capacitor Power Relay II
Federation Navy Armor Thermic Hardener
Federation Navy Armor Kinetic Hardener
Damage Control II
Medium Armor Repairer II

Omnidirectional Tracking Link II
Omnidirectional Tracking Link II

Cap Recharger II

Dual 180mm AutoCannon II, Titanium Sabot M
Dual 180mm AutoCannon II, Titanium Sabot M
Dual 180mm AutoCannon II, Titanium Sabot M
[empty high slot]
Prototype Cloaking Device I

Medium Sentry Damage Augmentor I

Garde II x5
Warden II x5
Hornet EC-300 x5
Warrior II x5
Hobgoblin II x5
Vespa EC-600 x5

The faction hardeners are cheap and use a lot less CPU.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

I would suggest to train the Dominix (incl guns, because with guns and drones it really shines) to do L4s. Meanwhile you can use the Vexor for lowsec exploration (radar / mag) without problems.

If you are comfortable with them, buy an ishtar. That ship is awesome, but requires quite high skills to fit everything, due to low cpu/pg.

And get T2 drones ASAP. Especially T2 sentries.

Edit: Dominix is _very_ cheap, you can use it as your bread and butter ship everywhere (although it would be very slow and therefore not funny for exploration)

Good advice from Julia.

It takes a lot of SP and also ISK to make Ishtar shine, but when it does, it shines like a big bright star.

Don't forget the Myrmidon, it might be a good in-between ship before you have the skills to fly a Dominix, similar dps to a Vexor, but much better tank, and more midslots for exploration gear.

Drone Interfacing V in addition to T2 drones is a priority after T2 tank, and pay attention to cap management and fitting skills as well.

I use Megathrons for missions and this one flies pretty easy:

[Megathron, Railgun missions]

425mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L
425mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L
425mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L
425mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L
425mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L
425mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L
425mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge L
Auto Targeting System I

100MN Afterburner II
Phased Weapon Navigation Array Generation Extron
Cap Recharger II
Cap Recharger II

Damage Control II
Large Armor Repairer II
Armor Thermic Hardener II
Armor Kinetic Hardener II
Capacitor Power Relay II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II

Large Algid Hybrid Administrations Unit I
Large Hybrid Collision Accelerator I
Large Ionic Field Projector I

Hobgoblin II x5
Garde II x4

The auto targeter does not need to be activated, it does however give +2 to targets and one can lock onto 9 targets. Activating it can be useful when there is a lot of jamming and dampening going on and one is too lazy to lock on again. It is not cap-stable, but with a targeting range of around 110km (Ionic Field Projector rig) can one shoot anything from frigates to battlecruisers before they can get close nor does one need to fly around much. The DPS are at 750-780 at 30-36km range. One can simply park it at one spot, drop the sentries, lock on a lot of targets and most NPCs will not get through the DPS. In missions where you know you need to tank a lot, because you have to warp into the middle of it can you always swap the mag stabs for more hardeners and you can also swap sentries for heavies, etc.
