That's a rather useless thing to do with your gametime TBH. You will not stop a thing from happening fyi.

We were chatting, and I was ratting and salvaging in the area, warping back to their belt when rats showed up there. 0.5 space so there was no shortage of them. :)

how'd he do that? usually Itty Vs are made of wallpaper.

I think he basically outskilled me. I couldn't do enough damage with my tech 1 guns to overwrite what he was repairing with his armor repairer. On top of that, he was leaching all my capacitor power. Before I knew it I had no cap left.

Keep in mind, at the time I had a total of about 2 days of existance, so my skills (both as a player and skill-queue-wise) were pitiful.

I suspect he had it fitted similar to this:

Itty V's and other transport ships take out ships all the time. Ever heard of a Battle Badger ??

As others have said, finding alternatives to jet-can mining and / or mining in quiet systems is probably the way to go. That said, there is a trick I used on the (last and final) time I jet-can mined and got can flipped. First I flew back to station and swapped to an industrial ship that could carry all of the ore. I warped back to my can and set myself up so that I was aligned to a station and traveling at full-speed towards the station but with the (now pirate-owned) can near (but not blocking) my flight path. I opened my cargohold and just as the can was in range I opened it, yanked out the contents, and immidiately warped to dock at the station. Naturally this put me on an agression timer and fair game for the pirate to shoot but a bit of luck plus the fact he had minimal time to react (since I was already at top-speed and aligned) allowed me to get my ore back. Keep in mind also that if you do this (and don't want to pvp) that you'll have to wait off the agression in the station (of course as a miner you can be refining / managing market orders). In reality it probably would have been more productive to just take that as a lesson learned and just leave it, but for the stubborn finding themselves in that situation it is an option.

Nah it's a good idea. Imagine being the flipper in cases like these where they have invested time into trying to flip and harass you. They look up and you're gone, can is gone, ore is gone, all for nothing. Then rub it in their face in local by saying something like "And now, to alt-tab back into my wow-raid" (or something else that takes lots of time) so they know you've alt-tabbed and are enjoying yourself elsewhere, and not caring about '15 minute timers'. I once tabbed into BF3 and played for a few hours to come back and find the guy still camping my station, water off a ducks ass to me, but that whole time he could be ganking someone else, wasted.

You'll be amazed what an iteron can do!

Dump a can in space. Go back to dock. Switch to tricked out stealth bomber. Return to can. Wait for can-flippers to show up. Satisfaction.

Wow, thanks for all the advice y'all. I have gotten advice from a helpful corp mate who taught me a bit about hardening ships and NOT to use an expensive T2 ship for PvP.

I do mine in a quiet system for the most part, just that this particular can flipper sometimes likes to show up, but it seems for the most part he gets on as I'm logging off, so I just avoid him. In fact, just tonight, I was mining near one of the secure containers I have set up and I think he thought to get some more free ore from me or a free kill. He finally warped away, after figuring out I wasn't jetcanning.

So far since I've started about three weeks ago or so, I'm now up to around 180 million ISK, so I'm not hurting. I was pissed more about the principle of the thing than the amount of potential ISK I lost. I'll continue to adapt and learn and make ISK hand over fist. Big smile

Most flippers are in frigs, so a bomber loaded with torps wont do squat. Any other launcher just isnt worth it.

I lost a flycatcher to a merlin, after his bum-buddie came into RR is ass & being webbed & 70km out, had no chance of.scaring that RR away.

So next time that happens, im getting me a Rook, to take both of them out the fight, or, run away if it gets messy....

I was hanging out in my Catalyst with some friends who were mining, providing pirate protection and chatting. Along came someone in an Iteron V, and sure enough he can flipped us.

Having only played for a few days, I thought I could take him, and started combat. It didn't go well, and soon enough he destroyed my ship. I immediately started a conversation with him, opening with, "Ha - I thought I could easily take an industrial? Mind if I ask for some advice, since I'm pretty new?"

What ensued was a good 30 minute discussion with this person. He gave me all kinds of advice, looked at the fitting I had on the catalyst, made recommendations on changes and what skills I should focus on, etc. Then he really surprised me by giving me probably 20 million isk in various modules - along with 6 frigates and a Vexor cruiser!

Very nice of the guy, despite his being a can-flipper. :)

It might be the same guy that gave me the first pvp experience in the game. It happened during my trial when I was mining in the gallente noobs area trying to gather some minerals to make a bit of money. There were other miners too so I thought its safe to jet a can and speed up a bit the mining process.

Then this lonely Iteron V shown up and slowly approached me then fliped my can. At that point all I knew about Iteron was that they are freighter ships. So I jumped in the base and grabbed my badly fitted Catalyst and warped back to bring down the thief. Soon as I opened the fire, the guy started to warp scramble me and dried out in just a second my capacitor. Then he just blew my ship up, but no pod kill.

So even I lost almost everything I had at that time, I was not pissed at all because actually this incident was a good lesson for me. Sadly, at that time I did not know how to chat with other player.. so I might just missed few good advices

I found a sweet mining spot of 4 systems and in my 4 years mining in those 4 systems, I've only had a 2 week event where I got flipped.

You can anchor down secure containers, but that will probably waste more of your time than making trips.

Don't take the bait, no matter what you do. 1 can < 1 Ship.

My suggestion is to look on the map and learn how to apply filters. Once you do that, look for a quiet high sec system that's had minimum jumps over the longest time. That's how you find quiet mining spots.
