First of before you ask i did a clean install last week. Means i installed eve from scratch on a Win XP SP3.

I just started the launcher to get todays patch.

1. i got told launcher update ... it succeeded.
2. as the launcher didnt automatically start after the update i started it manually again
This leads to a 1 second popup of a window about the look and size of cmd.com
Launching eve.exe manually gets me the very same behaviour.
Launching launcher.exe & launcher_console.exe from the explorer gets me to the very same behaviour.
3. Launching repair.exe gets me to step 3/7 "Loading Receipts" where it gets stuck like it always does since this f***ing peace of BS-software named eve-launcher

Thanks for that.

To be honest im pissed of that you cant get things working the repair.exe issue persists since the rollout of the launcher.

So what shoud i do now, download the full client a 3rd time in less then a months time ? Dont think so.

Please note i didnt had any problems on my win 7 machine yet (havent tried with todays patch though), unluckily it only got a mobile uplink with traffic limit. Therefore the idea is to get the patches on my winxp laptop at work ... like i did for years ...until ...you know ... launcher :/

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thx in advance Kessel

EDIT: Thread can be closed

Solutions:

1. manually launch update.exe from Eve/launcher/cache directory to restore launcher (see post #4)
2. wait for CCP to find another solution for http connections opened by launcher.exe and repair exe or move to less restrictive network (see post #7 and #8)

They should make an Issues forum so people that have Issues could all post in the same section.
Maybe there, those that could actually help from CCP would have all their info in one place.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

Ok got the launcher back working.

Steps for winning partly ... :/

1. find the directory you installed eve to.
2. enter the launcher subdirectory and then the cache subdirectory
3. start update.exe
4. It downloads about 20 MB for the launcher.
5. You are asked where to install to. Navigate to the directory you installed eve to (same as 1.)
6. It installs and launches the launcher right away (see the difference to my original post :P)
7. have fun watching the launcher create the patch ... until it reaches 15% and gets stuck.

Any further advice? Oh i see no advice received yet ... but hey ill keep trying :m

Blah blah XP outdated blah blah its just not the issue nor what it would help to change the OS in this case ....

WOULD you please so kind to add a f****ing content type to your http replys. My firewall would then not need to block your misconfigured connections. Or add a proxy support so i can tunnel your connections through less restricitve systems.

The Firewalls HTTP-Proxy reports it as:

The factory default of the used IPS sees this as malicious ...

Thanks for the input, it's very useful.

The problem here is not that the http header reply is malformed, it's that some firewalls look at multipart/byterange responses to be hostile as they have commonly been used in DOS attacks and so block them. But our patching mechanism relies on these multipart/byterange requests to function.

We are working on a solution for those who wish to use a strong firewall, but in the meantime, you will have to use a manual patch - link
