I believe your statement to be in error. Amarr and Caldari are allies. Logic would dictate it'd be a Gallente thing, being a direct counter to Caldari.

[and a lot of other good points]

Thanks for pointing out my myriad errors politely. I appreciate it! And even though I said I wasn't an RP'er, the me from 9 years ago would have known you to be correct about everything. So I guess I have to put it down to bittervet senescence.

Luckily, the whole thing was an aside that's easily ignored for the purposes of the MD balance discussion.

  • [December] Missile Disruptors and Tweaks to Missile Guidance Mods in EVE Technology and Research Center

Sorry I'm tardy to the feedback party, but that's my jam. Someone in this thread suggested moving these new MD bonuses to Caldari ships because Caldari only have one form of ewar and the suggested change would _kind of_ be giving Amarr three types of ewar.

I just want to point out that, from a lore perspective (groan, and I'm not even an RP'er), a MD bonus would be more appropriate for an Amarr hull because their natural enemy are the missile-spewing Caldari. If anything, you'd want to move TD bonuses to another race...maybe to Minmatar, since their natural enemy are laser-pewing Amarr and many folks consider the Minnie painter bonus under-utilized (because in fleets you only need a few paints, and in solo there's always a better module). Heck, maybe the Minnie TD bonus should go to another race to counter Minnie's speed and sig radius advantages.

Not that I'm suggesting such a radical and probably unworkable juggling happen! And I'll get to an actual, relevant but possibly bad idea in the next paragraph. But as long as I'm on the subject of ewar balancing, recall that someone has suggested re-purposing defender missiles to counter drones. If this were to happen, it might finally be the opportunity to give the Caldari their long-missing second form of "ewar" (actually, "specialized defensive countermeasure") because the drone-spawning Gallente are the Caldari's natural enemy and it may be too powerful for every race of ships to be able to counter drones with a utility highslot. And...no. As I write that, I'm imagining ECM boats capable of shutting down their main counter and...no, sorry. But I'll leave this here as a small thought exercise and a lesson/warning to others. And add that this has implications in general against any future/proposed anti-drone countermeasure: you'd have to make sure ECM boats couldn't use it. (And you thought I went off in the weeds in my second paragraph!)

***Finally, back on the actual thread topic of MDs, I agree that as they stand, TDs and MDs need to be two separate modules to avoid OP'ness and being a "must-fit" module on every PVP ship. However, if you reduced the effectiveness of both TDs and MDs, maybe you could consolidate them into a single, more generally applicable but less powerful module. And, in so doing, counter some of the game's current complexity and proliferation trends. (Asterisks surround this paragraph because it's actually relevant to the thread; sorry I got off course above.)***

Not fixed for me. On one of my machines the "don't ask" setting works but on the other machine it doesn't work. CCPls, what's the status on this?

  • Dev Blog - A new look for EVE’s UI – feedback needed! in EVE Information Center

Three people have said this already in this thread, and I'll make it four:

It would be amazing and immersive to have the UI in some way reflect the type of ship you are flying. For example, make it an option (not required) to have UI color theme change depending on what faction's ship you are piloting. More involved, slightly tweak the HUD or other UI elements based on faction.

Possibly even go beyond faction into ship type. Industrials could have a different HUD or UI feel than combat ships, for example. Cloaky ships could have their HUD elements fade down while a cloak module is activated.

Concrete examples can be found in most other fleshed-out scifi universes. For example this:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=klingon+control+panel&espv=2&biw=1709&bih=845&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=U5ddVJ65IKa3mwXhjYC4Cw&ved=0CBwQsAQ

    vs. this:

Suggestion: Apply overview color settings to locked target icons.

Notes: It would greatly improve situational awareness if you could more easily identify which of your locked targets are friendly or hostile (for example).

  • blink in EVE Communication Center

I got all my ISK refunded by Somer before he got banned, and so did every other Blinker I talk to (about a dozen). I haven't talked to any Blinker who didn't get their ISK back. So I'm going to go ahead and conclude that the OP is a troll. And yes, I am a Blink apologist. I literally doubled my ISK using Blink by playing Promos nearly exclusively for years. I think that Blink was a brilliant operation and wish that I'd thought of it, or more realistically, had the energy to implement it.

    Where is the reward?

The reward is the ISK-printing machine provided by WH sites. Highest ISK per hour in the game (as far as shooting red crosses goes) and in complete isolation from the rest of Eve (and therefore in complete safety) if done correctly.

  • Remove interceptor immunity to HIC bubbles (part of HIC rebalance?) in EVE Technology and Research Center

So far, so good. On the second page now and so far nobody has been able to explain why the op is a bad idea. Most negative responses are trolls or from people with relatively little related PVP experience.

To the "post your killmail troll": your troll makes no sense. I'm trying to generate PVP with this, not avoid it.

To the "make my blue space safe" troll: I don't live in sov space and welcome any targets into my system because all I do is PVP. Besides, Intys will still be 95% uncatchable with my proposal, I'm just saying let's get the percentage down from 99% uncatchable.

To those who haven't experienced intys before they got bubble immunity: it was already almost impossible for a competent inty pilot to die to a bubble camp before they got immunity. Inties are one of my favorite ships to fly and I think I've lost maybe two inties in 6 years to bubble camps. Bubble immunity is a luxury, not a necessity for safe travel.

To the "f off" people: I'm happy to entertain any _explained_ objections to the proposal. I change my mind all the time when presented with compelling arguments, something I have to do all the time at my job. When CCP reads this thread it will help if you guys post reasoned objections, or else they will just ignore you and the likelihood of my proposal being implemented goes up rather than down. Stop shooting yourselves in the foot.

  • Remove interceptor immunity to HIC bubbles (part of HIC rebalance?) in EVE Technology and Research Center

Good points so far about alternative approaches to this. Maybe this proposal should morph into the larger issue of Tiericide, specifically the rebalancing of HICs.

HICs could be used as a counter to not just Intys, but any nullified ships (e.g., T3 Cruisers). And the counter doesn't have to be simply a bubble that stops all ships. It could involve scripts to "flavor" the HIC's bubble. For example, the HIC could script its bubbles to catch nullified ships OR non-nullified ships, but not both. Or affect speed/agility/mass of certain other ship types (e.g., nullifieds, cloakeys) inside the bubble but not prevent warps. Different effects could be visible to other pilots by continuing the theme of different colored bubbles.

  • Remove interceptor immunity to HIC bubbles (part of HIC rebalance?) in EVE Technology and Research Center

TL;DR: Revoke interceptor immunity to one type of bubble, for example a HIC bubble. Keep immunity to other types of bubbles.

Like everyone else, I've enjoyed the near-complete safety afforded by brainless gate-to-gate travel through nullsec in my dual-stabbed interceptor. However, I think it's a bit too much "easy mode," as evidenced by the thousands of intys used throughout New Eden as fast, near-zero-risk travel through 0.0. Note my use of "near-" in this paragraph: I'm aware that it is possible (but not guaranteed) to catch a dual-stabbed Inty on a gate using 3 or more linked, resebo'ed points, or with a smartbombing battleship that gets lucky enough with server ticks to see the inty on D-scan before it lands and time its SB activation properly.

Some benefits of the proposed change:

    • It still leaves Intys as a very safe method of travel, but it offers one reliable counter to them
    • This is a counter that intys can still avoid with a bit of caution, but they can't ignore it completely
    • HIC bubbles are a natural choice, since the ships already have the "infinite point" capability in the lore
    • Because HICs aren't as widely used as anchored bubbles or the dessie-hull interdictors, it may give folks a reason to fly them a bit more
    • HICs are much slower warping than intys and dictors, which would help keep their utility against intys somewhat in check
    • A HIC is fairly slow on grid in relation to an Inty, so HICs would be unlikely to catch and kill intys inside their own bubbles without teamwork (group play is a central tenant of Eve)
    • It may give fleets a reason to start using covops again as scouts instead of just intys

Based on the above, I think I'm suggesting a pretty balanced change. Full disclosure, I am first and foremost a PVP'er and I do want to be able to kill stuff. I also use intys for travel, but I do think most ships should have a realistic counter. I don't think that the suggested change will result in certain deaths for all the intys out there. I do think it will take intys a bit less out of their "easy mode" travel role. I think the change will promote less AFK play and more healthy PVP.

  • Navigation - Center of New Eden Universe in EVE Communication Center

The best write ups I've seen on New Eden's topology are here:

    New Eden Topology

The first article in the series discusses the "center" of the Eve universe, for various definitions of center. Note that this is all using graph theory, so the discussions are more about the center from a gameplay perspective than a lore perspective.

  • [Crius] Jump Drive Isotope Consumption in EVE Technology and Research Center

This change screws over people like me:

    • non-industrialists
    • who only play Eve to PVP, solo and in small gangs
    • who live in NPC 0.0 or lowsec
    • and are independent or in a small corp

    Was this your intended target?

It's now going to cost a lot more ISK for me to bring ships out to where I live so I can get them blown up. And to move all my stuff to a different region, because who spends their entire Eve career in one location? Inflation has been pretty bad these past few years in Eve; why ramp up everyone's costs even more? You are continuing to price casual players out of the game.

  • Am I playing it wrong? in EVE Communication Center

The closest thing to a tutorial for PVP that I'm aware of is the Agony Basic PVP class. It doesn't obligate you to join a corp. It teaches you the basics of PVP and then takes you out for a roam to get experience flying in a fleet and fighting in battles. After the class you can talk to the instructors or alumni in chat and get suggestions about where to go from there.

We generally don't recruit directly from our own classes, so this is not a recruitment post. If it turns out you enjoy the PVP experience, we will probably refer you to Brave Newbies, Red vs. Blue, or Eve University. We also have more boutique suggestions if you're looking for a more intimate corp experience, or a preference for lowsec or wormhole space.

CCP's community spotlight article on Agony's classes

I would be remiss if I didn't put in the following disclaimer: Agony is an independent PVP corp that recruits experienced pilots who enjoy small gang PVP. PVP-University is a side project that we run as a source of income and because we enjoy spreading the joy of PVP across New Eden.
