  • Dev blog: Back Into the Structure in EVE Information Center

I was involved in helping the develop the vision for the "flogging a dead horse" modular pos initiative back in 2006, and have been lobbying heavily for a pos revamp since early 2005 when we realized that after a few months, they were getting tedious to set up. Heh. If I had known then how many more pos I'd have to deal with over the next decade I might have quit right then, but CCP had a bad habit of teasing us who were involved in sov/pos logistics that a change was coming, so we just dealt with it.

I've spent nearly ten years lobbying for these changes, and now that they are coming I'm not sure how to feel about it. It's a lot to digest. It's different from the vision I had in my mind, especially since I had long past been the point of accepting pretty much any tiny revision to pos mechanics. I just hope that CCP doesn't get too ambitious too quickly, and doesn't forget how hard it could potentially be to recycle the galaxy's backbone now that how logistics is done has drastically changed for everyone outside of empire. I'm not asking for a magical automatic upgrade button or anything like that, but consider the relaxation of anchoring limitations one of the first things you roll out with any new structures.

Anyways. It's nice to see something that should have happened years ago finally happening. All that's left now is corp and alliance management.

  • Dev Blog: Long-Distance Travel Changes Inbound in EVE Information Center

These are some of the best changes I've seen in my 11 years playing this game. Good thing I include humor factor in to those calculations or else I might be mad.

Any change that makes the major nullsec powers hugely mad probably means you're on the right track. Have they not been begging for change? Did they not just publish a big fancy open letter with a veritable blue donut of signatories?

Well, here's your change. If you quit, can I have your stuff?

I wonder about those corps who sought out c4>c4 wormholes for their isolation on purpose.

They're going from Yoda's hovel on Dagobah to Grand Central Station in one patch.

    Dear CCP,

Are you seriously trying to make this game COMPLETELY unplayable? What was the reasoning behind this crackpot idea? Because seriously, that's what it is: literally pants-on-head-********. Do any of you spend any time in wormholes whatsoever, as a normal account/player? Its clear you don't, because this potentially breaks wormholes.

As the people before me have expressed (rather eloquently, I might add) this can really only lead to the stagnation of wormholes. So much combat comes into play when you have caps on holes, and a random-distant spawn point is going to lead risk-averse groups into not committing caps, full-stop.

Wormholes aren't broken (comparitively speaking) - stop trying to fix them. Instead, please focus your attention on things that DO need fixing: POS mechanics, corporation mechanics, sovereignty, the still-soul-crushing new player experience.

What Her Pointiness Queen LaBeefah said.

Like most recent attempted changes to wormhole mechanics, the spirit of the change is good, but the execution leaves something to be desired. It just doesn't feel like a reasonable change.

What do you mean even more people moving out of wormholes? I was unaware of some mass exodus out of one of the most profitable parts of the game.

And what do you mean by wormhole coalitions? How does this change even remotely promote coalitions? How would a coalition member not already in the same wormhole system respond to aid someone under attack in that system? Ugh

You have not been paying much attention, then. C6s are a ghost town now. Very few people live in them anymore when previously they were sort of regarded as the hard mode of wspace.

By wormhole coalitions I mean imagine a scenario where you're going to see more previously unalinged corps joining alliances, and alliances start to absorb smaller alliances. Staging wormholes will develop, moonlocked with deathstars, and day tripping will become the norm for constant income while others use alts with throwaway expo holes that they run until they get ganked or run the sites dry and extract the capitals to kspace for the next expo, leaving the towers behind.

It will become like nullsec without stargates. These huge wspace entities will rage roll with impunity until they come upon some unlucky small corp that doesn't want to play with the big boys and get ganked, turned into renters, or evicted, because that's simply the way of things.

This sort of thing has been happening to a small extent as wormholes have been ~iterated~ on over the years, but a change like this could accelerate it out of control to the point where it may never be able to be undone. See: lowsec incursion culture, which rose organically and had only just started to flourish when ccp ~iterated~ it with the intention of making HS less profitable and "increasing risk" in LS/NS incursions but ended up simply crushing all the fun that was there by making it not worth the huge logistics involved to run them.

It would be much better if you would state your goals for these type of changes explicitly, instead of offering euphemisms

In the ten years I have been playing this game that has not been CCP's MO in around eight.

  • Potential Idea for Discussion: Delaying signature appearance for K162s in EVE Gameplay Center

I am all for making wormhole space more risky but a ~unavoidable delay~ is unreasonable. There's got to be some way to mitigate it, even if it's just having a dedicated person on probes. Which people should have either way.

Doing this change will result in one of two outcomes: Even more people moving out of wormholes, or corps blobbing together to make wormhole coalitions. Is that what you want? Nullsec politics without stargates?

I went to live in a wormhole to get away from coalitions. I'll have nowhere to go but highsec if they end up in wspace.

Don't do to wspace what you did to lowsec incursions by hamfisting small changes with huge repercussions.

And I hope you were not counting on the passive tank of your fighter/bombers to tank anyway, otherwise this can explain why you were loosing them so fast :p

Anyone who has been playing longer than a few years remembers that EvE was the original formatting style of the name in a lot of text, specifically between Castor and RMR, so you will see this a lot from players who started before 05. I still type it EvE sometimes too.
