Is there a place in this game for a casual gamer?

So I've been playing EVE for a few weeks now. I'm running lvl 1 missions and was thinking about getting a cruiser to run lvl 2 missions. I've also been doing some mining here and there. Thing is, what should I aspire to become? Is the point of the game simply to get more money and buy new ships? Currently, running missions is not exactly a ton of fun.

I feel like the point of the game is get a good enough ship to be able to PVP in massive battles, but right now, I play about an hour per day and I feel like I'm forever going to be a noob at this game. I learned a bunch of things, but yet when I watch PVP videos I still don't understand a damn thing about what's going on...

I feel like the learning curve is too big for a player like me. Should I continue or just stop now?

Also, in any MMO I've played, I have always lacked the dedication to become a serious guild/corp/clan (whatevs) member, and I feel like this game requires a lot of dedication.

Red Vs Blue really, really is PvP on demand at any time of the day.

The fact RvB Culture praises T1 Frigate, Destroyer and Cruiser use to keep PvP flowing with low cost is just another serendipitous benefit to the newer players.

You will be very hard pressed to find round the clock action anywhere else. More then 3000 members.

Just join Red Federation or Blue Republic once you move your stuff into the HQ. Google RvB EVE for more information.

To learn the game yes but if you want to just up and shoot people EVE U doesn't have 20% the amount of PvP RvB puts out.

RvB has plenty of training information on there website and everyone is helpful.

Yes, just don't let other people dictate what you want to do...

As stated above, there are quite a few new player friendly corps that can at least give you some experience in different areas of the game, then you can decide what you want to do.
Lots of casual players play this game, they simply find an area of the game they like, and do that...But it's impossible to get a handle on the game in just a few weeks....

Years from now you'll still be stumbling across things you didn't know...

lol hour per day is definitely on the high end of casual...i wouldnt even call you casual, though i'll admit it's on the debatle end of things

yes, you can absolutely play this game at an hour per day or less

an hour a week maybe? ok, THAT seems pointless.

Mining and industry doesn't nesessary mean that you have to be active.. Ofcourse, leaving your ship afk in some asteroid-field is always risky, but with proper tank and quiet system, hulk mining is an option. It could give a fair income of ore to refine into minerals which turns into components or smaller ships which turns into bigger modules or bigger ships, and watch your products beeing used to cause fleetfights with 2000+ players in it.

I disagree!

EVE is more like any other hobby than a casual game. Yes, I think succeeding and advancing in EVE requires dedication.

And you are correct, missioning isn't much fun. Find a real corp that does more interesting things and is "RL first", NPC corps aren't good for enjoying this virtual world.

Whoa, fella.

There is no point to the game. That's the point.

You need to realize it's a sandbox. It's what you make it. Just go forth and do stuff. If you find that that stuff is not for you, do other stuff.

That said, there is all kinds of things for the solo/ casual/ full time, or really, whatever type of player you may be, to do and enjoy.

Take a look at corp recruitment forum, also there is a corp recruitment window on your necom, find the corp button and look for recruitment. Also might want to check out Eve University.

The point of Eve is to have fun making your way in a dangerous world. Your goals are your own, how you get there is pretty much your choice, choices with consequences. Keep in mind it is the path to your goal where the fun lives. Set small goals at first, then larger ones later. The smaller your initial goals, the smaller your obstacles. Enjoy overcoming them. You have to be your own regulator on how often the game drops you a cookie. If your goals are small, you get lots of smaller cookies, but at least you are getting them. If you set out some huge goal, you may get a giant cookie, but you'll loose sight of all the fun you can have along the way.

Things to rember about Eve,
You will die and you will loose stuff.
If someone smack talks you, don't take it personally.
It's a game, have fun.

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.  - William Pitt

Thanks for the advice guys. Also yes, 1 hour per day is not really casual, but right now my school is on strike, which means I do nothing bu work about 15 hours per week, or else I would probably play less.

As Hilmar and our new marketing guy said - EVE IS HARD :)

However the community in here is rather helpful and willing to aid those who seek for help during their 1st year. Your tears will be more tasteful when you 1st understand what is going on and only after that realize that your best friend just flipped your wallet.

Look for and join eve university if you prefer more "hold my hand and teach me"-approach over more direct measures like throwing your ship to the wolves and hoping that you learn before they become hungry.

It is very possible to play EVE on that level.
First though. move away from the Moar ships aspect. Move toward the Moar fit aspect.

If you chose to fly Minmatar cruiser class, Skill to fit that class. Think of EVE as a race car game. You don't buy all the cars, you pick a few and tweak thier performance, add new tires a better suspension, some engine upgrades. That's the ideal way to do casual EVE. become a pro at a few things. Niche out your skills.

Of course you can. It's the nature of the sandbox. Do whatever you want to do. Play for yourself and no one else. Like what I do, I created my own corporation over a year ago and I'm as casual or "hardcore" as I want to be.

It depends on what you want to do. If you're casual, there are some parts of the game that pretty much instantly become almost fully inaccessible to you.

Wow, am I the only one who enjoys running missions and exploration after a long day?
