I noticed that Heavy Missiles III is a prerequisite for the torpedoes skill but does the skill Heavy Missiles affect torpedo damage as well?

No, it does not.

To expand on the above, the "you must have (x missile skill) to III before you can train (y missile skill)" thing is part of what keeps the missile weapon skill investment on par with the turret weapon skill investment, though actually when you look at it from further out missiles rely on more secondary skills than turrets, slightly.

To expand on this, turrets require the smaller size trained to get the next one up (large requires med, which requires small).

However, where they differentiate is in the T2 tree, as the gunnery T2 tree is the same as the T1 (large t2 requires med t2, which requires small t2) whereas the missile tree doesn't have and prior T2 prerequisites for each individual missile (IE, t2 torps don't require t2 heavy missiles).

Also, the smaller skills (for both gunnery and missiles) don't effect anything other than their size.

Not Flyinghotpocket's alt. At all.
