Stupid Question - Damage Type for Tengu

Is it better to use EM missiles in a Tengu (which has a 5% Kinetic bonus per level, 25% at Level V) against Sansha and Blood Raider rats? Should I just load Kinetic in the cargo hold?

Yes. No, unless you can't be bothered to save a volley or two.

Centus Overlord:
* 25,621 EHP versus EM.
* 37,603 EHP versus Kinetic.
* 30,082 EHP verus Kinetic with 25% damage bonus. (37,603 / 1.25 = 30,082)

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

after so long of choosing ammo type, choosing drone type, and carrying lots of different types whenever I went anywhere ... the tengu is a pure joy. I load 80% DPS and 20% precision kinetic heavy missiles and just go with it.

Yes I could probably save a few missiles overall by picking and choosing damage type, but the hassle reductions way outweighs any benefit that might offer.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

Thanks for the answers. I wasn't sure how to crunch the numbers on it, which is why I asked here. I'll drop the EM from my cargo.

Ehhh... I'm going to disagree.

If you know you're going up against Sansha/BR, you absolutely want Mjolnir missiles. EHP numbers don't quite tell the whole story on overseers who rep like all get out when they feel inclined, easily stretching out TTK on Trauma missiles to 40%+ longer than Mjolnir. This is a Pretty Big Deal when you're trying to just get that 6/10 closed out before unwanted company arrives.

When I'm in Sansha/BR space I pack majority EM missiles. When I'm wandering around, just using kinetic makes sense, but there's really no point to gimping your damage is you know what you're up against.

I'm talking about Level 4 missions in high-sec, where the damage output of the Tengu makes these differences mostly trivial in terms of time and ammo expended. If I were to travel to a sector where I'd get more Sansha/BR missions than Guristas (outside Caldari space), I'd pack some EM as you say.

For the most part, I wondered if it was really necessary to pack EM when only 30-40% of the missions I get are against Sansha/BR.

Fair enough. Though if you're in high sec, managing ammunition logistics shouldn't be that much of a challenge in the first place. But the marginal gain is certainly a bit lower.

I find it well worth it to use Mjolnor against EM week rats. try it in game and you will see a difference of the volley amounts. This is not the same for other damage types. So I use Mjoln for Sansha and Blood, and trauma for everything else.

if your caldari offensive subsystems skill is not at 5, mjolnir becomes viable. then again, getting offensive and defensive subs to 5 should be your #1 priority.

I should buy an Ishtar.
