The launchers look really nice. But how are they supposed to reload?

New launcher turrets look awesome but unrealistic. Unlike bullets missiles should be able to trac their target right out of the bay so I don't see the need for the turret like tracking. Also the pods and launchers looked like large tumors sticking off the ship. I would be happier with something a little more simple such as bay doors open and eject the missile. Also I don't understand the missile pods. It looked like the launch several rounds at a time so is this pod all the launchers launching from one point or just one launcher? If it is just one launcher how are you going to get defender missiles to work because if the torp launcher fires one def missile and a rocket launcher fires 5 how will the animation work to show that 1 defender missile taking out 5 rockets from the same launcher?

I liked seeing missile animation getting some love but I think the current models are too turret like.

I hope that they don't make the missiles the stereotypically pointy cones like they showed in the preview. All the traditional aerodynamics don't apply to space, so theire no need for missiles to be sharp-nosed-pointy-cones. They can actually be a little more creative in there missile design and graphics IMHO. Think Homeworld 2. Those missiles were blunt nosed and 6 sided and looked cool in flight.

Alleluia! At last the missiles have gotten some loving, if this comes to pass as shown, or more so, as it is still a work in progress. Sincere good wishes for the development of this 110% grapical concept.
Just don’t let it back slide into a poor half way effect, that’s all.

3. Fins? Great, the fins on the actual missile body will totally help stabilize the missile, in atmosphere. All my physics training makes me scream at inaccuracies such as these. Better option: Put rings around base. The extra mass located farther out from the body will increase the moment of inertia when the missile spins, increasing accuracy. Bonus: Eve missiles get a cool look specific to eve, and dont look like super cookie cutter boring missiles found in every other game ever. example: Super super ugly 5 min mockup, Linky

I totally support this idea. The reason I like EVE's IP is the fact that New Edn world is much more realistic than Star Trek's for example. Immersion is an important factor and should be taken into account when re-designing existing systems and making new ones.

If your ship is travelling at 3000 m/s and it shoots a missile directly in front of it, and the missile has to change its momentum and redirect itself towards the target at its own speed, the amount of fuel spent more than justifies the use of turret-like aiming for missile launchers.

Fins.

I think...

...That these might help the missile lose any angular momentum aswell as offer a arm for momentum-altering forces. Also, nothing says these missiles are exclusive to space, maybe they are just the same missiles used by caldari/gallente/amarr foot troops.

It's been over 8 years since I started playing EVE Online, and almost 7 years since I spent several sleepless nights with a graphing calculator figuring out how your missile damage formula works, CCP. (Though, I notice I'm still stickied under the Ships and Modules EVElopedia page despite the formula having changed several years ago.)

And the entire time, I've had dreams in my head of what that video just demonstrated.

Thank you!

a) Wowzers!

b) CCP is doing something to missile flight time/dynamics, aren't they? The one thing we didn't see in the video was long flight times. Right now I'm thinking we get a cool launch animation, a cool "hit" animation, and the regular, current (boring) flight animations. Or CCP will increase up missile speeds dramatically to reduce their (lag inducing) time on grid, to make missiles more acceptable in PvP, and the keep the missile animations pretty. Or not.

c) Directional launchers in space? Silly. Missiles should just be cold launched from a tube as per modern Vertical Launch Systems. It would also eliminate the need for the launchers to retract into the hull to reload.

why not have them hide will in warp, like with the guns.

I belive its for other ppl to see what you are locked at. like with the gunnes they are amming at the target from the second you have the target locked.

I must say being someone who works on missile launchers day-in and day-out (im in the navy) i am very happy and kinda proud that the Rocket launcher looks ALOT like MK 116 Rolling Airframe Missile, and another (cant think of the the name) looks similar to NATO Seasparrow Surface Missile System. Like i said i work on those two system everyday, makes my heart smile wide

Since a few people seem to think the tracking launchers are stupid I'd just like to a my 2 cents, i believe that the tracking launchers were added because they play well with the theme of fast paced space combat where the time it takes for a missile to correct its course would be the difference between destroying the enemy before he destroys you, therefore the tracking turrets effectively reduce this time making it a point to have moving launchers.

here's 2 things I don't like... the old fashioned smoke trails, and the size of the missiles. Regarding the smoke, really, would anyone in the EVE universe, at the scale of EVE combat, still be using chemical propellants? I doubt it (minmatar would :P). I want to see plasma and ion trails, pls.

Regarding the size, given the volume of fire in a given battle, I'd always assumed missiles were unusually small, low cost delivery hulks for high tech warheads. You've got to fit 1000's of them in a cargohold after all. On the whole though, I like the new effects, they are gorgeous. Those things just stick out as not fitting the EVE universe properly.

also, tracking launchers are fine. No, it's not technically needed, but a delivery platform that tracks increases the efficiency of your payload's propulsion system, esp with short range missiles like rockets. RL surface-to-air emplacements often use rotating batteries.

Hello there.
New launchers and visualization are perfect. Thumbs up.
But... missile smoke? REALLY? In space (cosmos)?

if missile cost is a point than chemical propulsion is the way to go as its cheap. especially if the range is short. all our missile run out of fuel after about max. 30s so there is no need to implant any high-tech propulsion.

i like the smoke trails, i like the classic design of the missiles and i like the tracking launchers.

just noticed this.... really? you mean you didn't see the drake 3 separate times in the video?

Never close enough to get any detail out of it but you still saw it, and one time it did look like they had 2 launchers stuck to the side of it What?

Tracking Launchers + F.O.F Missiles = what direction should the launchers be pointing at...? Big smile Same problem with Defender missiles.

Ooooooooooooooooooh! New tech, new way of doing things. The new Micro-Warp-Jump thingie! The next generation of Eve missiles will be micro-jumped (by the launcher) to within close proximity of the target. This reduces flight time to a few seconds or less, reduces lag, reduces the need to figure out how to combine the cool Macross style launch and hit animations with the boring straight line tracks of missile flight over long distances, and provides an excuse to get rid of defenders.

On the down side, such micro-jump launchers would now require cap to fire.

Looks amazing, will be interested to see how it interacts with defende missiles and also to see if we get a buff to reload times to make them more viable in pvp.

Sustained pretty damage is nice but 10 seconds is the difference between life and pod

I too wait until combat to load my launchers.
