Question about not being able to train 2 characters at once.

So everyone knows that you can't train 2 toons on the same account, some say it's because other MMO's wont let you progress 2 characters at once either.

I can sort of understand that, but I was just curious, what is the point of having multiple slots for toons if you can only train one of them? This game would probably take years to train a character to it's fullest potential...so, what is a good use for the other 2 slots? I have a toon I use as a Jita price checker, but that's about it.

Why you are not sacrificing a little bit of training time (Like one or two weeks) and turn this Jita price checker into a basic trader char? My trading Alt makes me most of my money (About 99%)

Cyno alts are a common use for them.. say you have 2 accounts and 1 flies a carrier. A cyno alt on the other account is useful.

@Karak Because I couldn't think of any uses for the other slots, that's why I was asking, lol. Those are both good ideas, though.

Industry alts, you have guys running a POS while your main is in WH/NS PvPing.

Holder characters, get old enough and you want a titan? You need a character to sit in it for 99% of the time.

Scanning alts (specifically WH based) have a char that flys a covops only with max scanning skills

Mining alts, buy a character with mining/gas mining and put it on an account so you can mine with 2 accounts instead of 1.

You can use them for PI / Datacores in addition to your main character.

-Price checkers/traders in multiple stations without needing jump clones

-You can use one spot for the sole purpose of corp theft/scamming/etc. Just recycle the character as needed.

-Being able to focus your characters (i..e one focused on combat/missioning while having another focused on industry, etc) saves you slow training times. Having all your points into Perception/Willpower doesn't help a manufacturing toon much.

i buy pve alt's or freighter alt off the forum and keep them on the same account so i dont worry about training. also suicide alts are good in alt slots. some of my characters do finish training my tengu alt took 1 year then i switched to a different character.

I might use the idea of making the toon a trader alt. I mostly mission, with occasional mining, so I have yet to explore into the other facets of the game. Can anyone suggest a good site or guide for tips on manipulating the market? Thanks again.

Well you thought of one use right there. Other low-sp alts include scout alts and cyno alts, both of which can usefully be trained up in only a few days.

Also after a while, you may not need further skills on your main as much as you need them on an alt. Eg: say if you started out as a miner/industrialist, and after a while you wanted to get into PvP. Your indy guy is best off staying where he is while you train up a seperate character for PvP. Or you have trained your main up as a subcap specialist, and you want a capital specialist on another slot. Or, as in my case, you've simply trained up all the skills you really want, and there's no point in increasing your clone cost, so you stop training your main, and skill up a Tengu alt for ISK making.

Also people can and do buy characters, and also they consolidate characters from their other accounts, for which an empty character slot is essential.

In short: not everyone just trains or uses one character per account ever.

I can list a few. Some were already listed, and I'm sure I will miss a couple as well.

Cyno alts. More is better.
Price checker.
Trader.
Scammer.
SPAI !
Ninja Salvager.
Suicide Ganker.
AFK Cloaker.
Mothership Holder.
Titan Holder.
Research Alt.
Freighter Toon.
A Character You May Buy.
A Character You May Sell.
Forum Alt.
PI Alt.
Free Toon When People Quit EvE.
Anonymous Toon Where Nobody PM's You Nonstop.
The Toon You Thought Your Girlfriend Would Like To Play.
The Hot Chick You Spent 2 Hours Creating.
The Total Derp You Spent 3 Hours Creating.
Etc.
Etc.

It never ends. The point is though, 3 slots is nice to have and opens up some options for you.
