We have heard the cries of beleaguered missile pilots and have answered their call. Team TriLambda presented a new video today showing work in development for new missile launchers, launcher effects and missiles. You can check out the video on our You Tube page and we look forward to hearing your comments.

Looks nice!

One idea though, that you could look at for either a very high cycle launcher or a ship with lots of launcher hardpoints (drake? raven?) is a VLS array replacing the launcher's model on the ship. Have missiles deploy out of immobile port and starboard (or dorsal/ventral) arrays before reorienting themselves and flying off to the target.

This might cost more processing power than it'd be worth but it would let people who turn off gun (and launcher) model display (gasp!) some nice eye candy.

So which brave Dev spent a month or two wrestling with the C++ spaghetti beast that's the physics engine in order to make the missile handing code spawn missiles at the hardpoint locations?

Also, how many goat sacrifices were needed?

This is a brilliant idea! Looking forward to the launchers on my tengu. One thing I thought of is you could make the missiles have swirling effect like on the "A future vision" video when the soldier fires the anti tank missile (jacks?). Either way I can't wait for this, keep up the good work!

Looks awesome. Definitely looking forward to seeing these in action.

One minor concern. Might just be the video, or an issue of perspective and scale, but the placement of the citadel launcher on the Phoenix's sliding door thing looks odd, since it would be physically impossible for missiles to fit inside that space, unless they're going to be coming up through the door model.

Also, will the missile launchers fold and retract like turrets?

Looks amazing, will be interested to see how it interacts with defende missiles and also to see if we get a buff to reload times to make them more viable in pvp.

Sustained pretty damage is nice but 10 seconds is the difference between life and pod

Finally! But I figured I should leave some sweet, delicious feedback for you guys

1. These things look bulky, really bulky, Will these look out of place with some non-caldari ships, or will non-caldari races get their own launcher models? Also, I cant see these things looking great on a tengu, the way the hard points are set up.

2. I noticed that the missiles stick out of most of the pods. Will the tips of the missiles change colors when different ammo is loaded (Red for thermal, grey for scourge, blue for thunderbolt, etc). Also, If they run out of ammo, will the missiles still show? that would break a little immersion. Back to the coloring, the icons for missiles clearly show the design of how the missile should look. Are the icons going to be changed to reflect this, or are you going to leave a massive disconnect in art assets as is?

3. Fins? Great, the fins on the actual missile body will totally help stabilize the missile, in atmosphere. All my physics training makes me scream at inaccuracies such as these. Better option: Put rings around base. The extra mass located farther out from the body will increase the moment of inertia when the missile spins, increasing accuracy. Bonus: Eve missiles get a cool look specific to eve, and dont look like super cookie cutter boring missiles found in every other game ever. example: Super super ugly 5 min mockup, Linky

4. Will missile skills affect the model? It would be cool to see "upgraded warheads" resulting in a larger payload.

5. Will missile pods change color, just like turrets do? because grey is well, grey.

6. Will the missile pods shoot through the shields? what i mean by this, is that current shield effects are a mesh slightly larger than the model of the ship. These things are BULKY and HUGE, causing clipping with the shields. I suppose it would be cool either way, but I'm curious to see what you guys do with the shields.

7. How much will flight time of missiles be effected? Right now they take a little time to accelerate, but i would hope firing from different places would not reduce maximum missile range by much.

8. Doesn't this fly in the face of missile grouping? each missile would have to be a separate entity, nullifying any lag reduced by missile grouping.

Minmatar missile upgrades.... A few hand grenades duct taped to the end of the warhead! I like the idea!

It makes me cry!!!!

For so many years I was hoping missiles get their former glory back. The video looks promising and I can only hope missiles get changed to maybe hit something again and deal a great deal of damage as they were designed to do in the beginnings of EVE.

so would this mean the fancy new naga would get launcher points added to bring it in-line with the rest of caldari ships? (also since they already have another blaster tier 3 battlecruiser)

that was one reason they didn't want to put missles on the naga at first right? (didn't want to let their pretty new ship shoot blobs of missles from mysterious void in the middle of the ship)

Not if you're creative. The missiles don't have to exist on the server at all.

If that was a reason, it was a really, really minor reason.

Putting missiles on the Naga made it unbalanced. The only fix for this was to make it use turrets.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)
