UK players have been an important part of the EVE community from the very beginning, organizing some of the very first player meets, being at the forefront of EVE’s PvP alliances and expanding the EVE experience with such creations as the Clear Skies movie trilogy. The enthusiasm and creativity of these players has only underlined the importance of the UK market as we enter a very exciting time for the EVE Universe. The new price for UK players will be £9.99.

Finally, a game company that recognizes that €15 != £15

9.99 euros = 13.2497 US dollars

95% of the players are loving EVE, the other 5%? On the forums.

$15 USD = €11.30 = £9.45

Previously (or now, in fact) Eve costs $26.46 a month, converted, from PLEX.

Still going to be a £1.50 direct debit on top of that? Best not be.

1 plex via eve plex store = €17.49 special offer (normal price = €19.99)!

£9.99 = €11.95

Looks like mainland Europeans are getting ripped off here.

Needs balancing...!

What people also don't understand is that the purchasing power of $1 US does not equal the purchasing power of £1 UK:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purchasing_power_parity#OECD_comparative_price_levels

In that article, specifically the link I have here, it discusses how you can have a denomination of currency that is worth more than another based on purchasing power. For example, the OECD comparative price levels for the UK is 124. This means that an American living in the UK would have to pay $124 US for the same things that they would pay $100 US in the United States for.

Once you understand how this works, you can compare the new prices of EVE monthly:

£9.99 British pounds sterling = $15.8551 US (as of today)

$15.8551 / 1.24 = $12.74

So basically, as of today's data, the people in the UK are paying $12.74 US per month for EVE.

I think that is fair, personally, since for the past 9 years they have been paying near £20 per month, however in the future I think that game companies need to consider the impact of actual economics on their prices.

Well, actually...not quite.

For the longest time there was a 1.7 or better exchange rate for £ -> $, and lots of people, including myself, used to buy Timecodes from places like Shattered Crystal at USD prices ($15 for 30 days iirc) via paypal.

So, with factoring in exchange fees + paypal fees, most of us who did it that way were paying the equivilant ~$16-17 USD or about £9-10 at the time.

Of course, that's with the old exhange rates before the recession hit in 2009/2010 and rates plummeted.

Interestingly enough, as it currently stands for us in the UK, CCP charges us in Euros.

In my case, I just bought 3 months for 38.85 EURO via CCP and Paypal, which equates to about £32.50, or £10.80 per month at current exchange rates. I could probably get it cheaper if I went back to buying timecards again, but I'm lazy and it's not really worth the hassle now I'm working properly.

In short, a new £9.99 sub fee per month is a fair bit cheaper for us and puts us properly on par with the US, which'll be even better when buying in blocks Big smile

Considering how much Obama and Bush have deflated the dollar with mad printing in the last 4 years I'm not surprised, nor do I hold it against those in the UK :)
