Constantly freezing up

Well, it's apparent that CCP doesn't care about their Mac customers, so I started by cancelling subscription for the account that would pay again soon.

If they keep ignoring us not being able to play I'll be forced to cancel the other 3 accounts I'm paying for as well... 2 of which are over 4 years old... this would be a shameful damage I receive, so I will definitely not keep my disappointment about it to myself.

Can't buy a PC to play a game I've been able to play on a Mac till 3 months ago... well, can't buy a PC just for a game, anyway.

Plus, there is a Mac client, allegedly, and it should allow paying Mac customers to play.

I'm very, very disappointed.

You sure?
I havent crashed on MY MAC today, and it has been on for an hour now. I'm positive that efforts have been made to fix this issue.

I'm glad to hear it worked for you, Ivana. My client didn't receive any patches today, though, and the latest one, last night, made me write that post.

I wish I could be as positive as you are, but if you read my story, which I posted here, you'll find out I have my reasons to be disappointed.

If you read that post you'll notice that GM's apparently didn't even bother reading my messages before replying, or they wouldn't suggest to use fewer clients when my message said it happens even with one... unless they're suggesting me to use 0 clients, i.e. not to play at all.

By the way, my latest petition is still open: I replied GM's response of March 13th and then posted the Bug Hunters' reply... and it's been there unanswered ever since.

Pardon me, Ivana, but I'm definitely not optimistic, especially if you consider this thread has been open since last December.

Oh, just for the sake of clarity, I am not saying efforts haven't been made: just that they don't seem to have been enough and that no one has bothered communicating them, so far, or has been conveying the wrong message as all I understand so far is that Bug Hunters are aware of the bug and that GM's think it's my own problem.

And I've been paying 15 euro a month times 4 (for 4 accounts) for 3 months: that's 180 euro I spent without having a chance to play decently, as my ships sometimes die at random just because client freezes.

I'm on a rather new computer (2011 MacbookPro) and the client was rather stable since crucible. By "rather" I mean i would get the Freeze, or Crash to desktop about once or twice a week each. Since the last patch I had three Freezes, and one CTD last night alone.

But i keep saying every update is like some crappy game show prize wheel of Mac problems. Crash to desktop today… freeze issue after the patch. Freeze issue before, crash at gates next patch. During each patch or update your client steps up and spins the "Wheel Of Mac Issues" and develops a whole new set of problems in exchange for your old ones. Problems that CCP will either ignore, say they can't replicate then ignore, or take months to admit there may be a problem then disappear and seemingly do nothing about it for another few months, all until the next update when your client steps up and spins the wheel again and the whole thing starts over.

I'll be honest, the latest patches did bring stability to me.

However... The game struggles to update after each warp or gate jump, aka, every time it enters a new "grid".

As I do run Windows with Bootcamp, I can clearly notice that this problem doesn't happen there. In fact, the whole gaming experience is SO much better, everything is smoother, the image is better, the controls response is better, everything in general is better. The sad part is that, we do know that the OS or the hardware have nothing to do with that as other games that do have a native client don't show those issues, and since bootcamp is on the same machine, it is not the hardware either.

So, for the time being, I'm using bootcamp to play EvE, and checking the Mac client every now and then to see if it has got any better.

I can tell for a fact that, if I could not run bootcamp, I would have also canceled my accounts, unfortunately.

Haven't had much time to play last month or so but today I tried again and it didn't take long before I heard my alt freeze in the background (broken cd player sound). I had three freezes over 2 hours of play on two characters. I don't know why I bother anymore ... fanfest points towards a nice future for EVE, unless you play on a Mac. Might just unsub and come back in a year to see if they have fixed it then.

OMG. I forgot how bad the situation was. And nothing has improved over the last month or so I haven't played. It is not playable anymore unless you are masochistic. Is this issue shelved? How many Macs have problems? Should I just HTFU and realize that I represent such a small minority that I either get a new OS, a new computer or stop playing EVE?

Well, Lexmana, if you go through this thread you'll notice it's 11 pages long and 3 months old... meaning we are in good company, in the first place, and that CCP is not probably that eager to fix it (or in 3 months they would have come up with something).

You'll also notice they don't even bother saying much more than "have you tried clearing your cache?" or "delete your settings folder".

Plus, if you lose a ship because of one of these freezes, their "reimbursement policies are very strict" and won't allow them to refund you. This is what 2 GM's have already responded to my petitions.

Hmm, I have gotten 3 ships replaced due to the lag/crashes

I report everyone just so it is a PITA for the GM's and maybe they will ***** about the Mac players and something will get fixed.

Today I've frozen several times, so it's not gone. It happens to be periodical. Which is strange since the same programs are running every day. Adium/jabber and Chrome.

In my case it's a constant: it can happen sooner or later, with 1 or 4 clients, but it happens every time.
I even tried running it on a fresh boot with no other apps running (well, apart from Finder, of course), and it still happens.

That's what makes me wonder whether they even actually test the Mac client or just rely on cider to do the work for them...

Even though you ran with no other apps running, there still must be something odd going on on your system or with your installation. I have not had a freeze in weeks, and I run eve for hours.
What seems to be the issue with the Mac client is not that it does not work, my experience shows that it does. Its that it is very sensitive to something being a little off.

Glad to hear you haven't got this issue.

I can guarantee my system works fine with anything else: the only problems I've got are with EVE's Mac client.

And if you read this 11 page, 3 months spanning thread, you'll notice I'm not the only one.

If it was an overheating issue then I'm positive there would be other noticeable effects. If the CPU itself was overheating then the whole system would be having problems and if it was the GPU overheating then there would be some other graphical glitches in other games or applications.

In short, no, not an overheating issue. It's an issue with the EVE client.

I dont think so. It was not there before the crucible patch, and the crashes happens too random, sometimes right after logging in. Sometimes when doing PI and sometimes when I's just idling in a station(with station environments turned off).

Other times it never happens during a session.

And, guess what? Still no mention in "patch notes" about our issue.
