This Fanfest presentation offers a long term vision changes for ship balancing and is closely related to the ship rebalancing blog.

We first explained how current design sorts ship out by their size, tech, tier and manufacturer, before estimating that approximately 50% of the existing vessels are not used as much as they should be.

We then focused on bringing suggestions to improve this status, by clearly defining various tech levels next to each other (what are the differences between Tech1, Tech2, Faction and Tech3 hulls).

After that we proposed ways to streamline spaceship command skills to encourage specialization and consistency.

We also explained the concept of ship lines that is planned to replace tiers as a more elegant solution to balancing ships by role before finally presenting how the changes would impact ship trees and balancing changes tied to them.

It's being broadcast later on tonight, 19:00 I believe.

When your gut instincts tell you something is wrong, trust them. When your heart tells you something is right, ignore it, check with your brain first. Accept nothing, challenge everything.

Finally getting around the feedback (you all requested feedback, remember?

1) As noted in the panel, none of the t2 ships were of the 'combat' line, at least those of the amarr that were shown. I don't remember offhand how the absolution was categorized (I recall the damnation was a bombardment ship), but the field command ships should be 'combat' ships: High dps, high tank, maneuverability optional.

2) Fleet command ships need a real good tank as well, as they are natural primaries in a fleet, so as to remove bonuses from the rest of the fleet. The damnation as it is presently in the game a fine example of that

3) The nighthawk needs a dps boost. It is far behind the astarte, sleipnir and absolution in terms of dps, but has a comparable tank. This character can and has flown all of them with Command Ship V. Regardless of what happens to the drake, the nighthawk needs a boost to dps

4) Is Industrial Command Ship and Capital Industrial Ship skills only going to require Mining Barge IV, much like the change to BS V to BS IV for capital ships
