I don't see many people flying around in the Hookbill. My question is... why?

I, for one, like flying my little nano SML hookbill of doom.
4k m/s is pretty fast to get a long point on targets, especially in small gangs
And the constant dps through 40km+ isn't too shabby, either. Put a sebo on it and
You can tackle pods and inties without too much trouble

Instead, people run around in those OP Harpies, or 300dps thrashers, and wonder why
I won't take them on in my t1 frigs anymore.

I don't always post on the forums, but when I do, I prefer posting with my main.

Yeah, hookbill is very common in FW. Some of the caldari guys fly them a lot. It has lots of mids for tank or dual webs or TDs. Nasty little ship.

In my opinion, hookbill is the most versatile t1 frigate out there and can (and will) defeat any other t1 frigate and most t2 frigates out there*, along with many cruisers which do not pack an energy neut (biggest threat to hookbill, unless you fit cap booster). But it does take certain skill (sp and piloting) to get out it's true potential.

And yeah, I am the guy who killed rapier with one** Twisted

*Venge and hawk best avoided, though if you fit long point you can outrange vengeances rockets. Actually breaking it might be altogether different thing though Oops

They are almost comparable to AF's at the moment, if you use them medium range to get max damage before getting web/scrammed then do likewise you should be able to kill a good amount of AF's easily.

They can also be fit to be stupidly fast which always had advantages.

One key role I used to use them for was getting into FW sites and burning like mad to tackle bombers. Something they are really really good at... although frankly anything that can get to 5000 km/s heated can also do. Difference with these and the old Dramiels is that they are still underestimated. I guess Firetails can be employed similary since they are considered even worse.

Its because its not a dramiel, and doesn't have the OP bonuses of being such. However, a well-fitted hookbill can still be really fun to fly.

Try armor-tanked double web for the lulz, or light missiles from 80km + tp's (use this only with tackle, obviously) or the standard shield tank. All viable options.

Not Flyinghotpocket's alt. At all.
