I just realized something while I was out and about. You know CCP kind of gave away some of the Inferno stuff during the Dust preview?

For example, if Dust is supposed to interact with corporations and alliances, and give corporations an incentive to protect a planet.. It means they have to give some really really good incentives, like being able to set up a cloning facility on the planet, very similar to the Dust preview we saw.

Think BSG-like. A battle is going on somewhere in space, both old fleets are happy that they have fresh clones... but then the other force had an ace up their sleeve. They had hired a dust corp to attack the other fleet's alliance/corp cloning facility. They take down the facility right as the battle starts.. One side now no longer has up to date clones..SPs are lost...tears all around.

Essentially, Planets might become a lot like PoS's, perhaps cheaper to operate and setup, but vunerable to Dust corps.

Just a guess IMHO. However, I think this is a major way Dust is going to change the way Eve works.

Actually if the "door" opens to Dust universe and the interaction between Dust/Eve players is a positive experience, this could really make Eve pubbies demographics completely explode quite quick.
Just a guess, probably a bad guess, but also some probable reality. How things will get together I guess only time and experience will set this.

I felt that was the ultimate goal CCP was aiming for, especially after they mentioned that Mercs will be residing in the same stations as players.

Dust looked and felt like EVE, until he hit the ground, then it felt like a slower (for the presentation Im sure) pace but larger scale BF3. It really was a good demonstration of how a game can look and feel built for a single platform, but then they showed off the connection between EVE/DUST and well... The Strategic Posibilities Ideas in my head exploded. While it may look like the I WIN button from the Dust side, the amount of teamwork and planning to make it go off exactly when it is needed will be pretty interesting to see. I forsee the HighSec stuff being cool, but when it comes to LowSec and NulSec, things will get really interesting with fleet engagements to hold a planet and the Bombardment ships having to hold out waiting for that call. It really opens up a whole new range of fleet combat.

Fishmaskle, I imagine your head going pop as soon as that abby appeared on screen.

If the abby fired on the planet, I wonder if the reverse is also possible...

The strategic possibilities is what I am seriously interested in. Could you imagine the situation like the one I posted earlier? An entire fleet with the clones wiped out just before getting in to battle because a Dust Merc corp just took out their cloning facility. The Bombardment bit is going to be interesting as well. Fleet battles around planets where the bombardment ships are now primary..

But which battleships are the actual bombardment ships? You could hide them in a fleet of BS, bring your ship scanners guys!

The new Eve Dynamic. You no longer have to be just concerned on what ships are doing to each other. Now you have to pay attention to what they are doing to planets.

I found it a little dissapointing that you cannot actually destroy the buildings...you can shoot people on the ground from orbit..but there weren't even scratches at the buildings.

I think DUST will be very interesting for us. I like the idea of battleships doing the bombarding better than dreads doing the bombarding, simply because dreads can just have a shitton of reppers and the only things that will take them down will be titans, something I'm sure nobody wants.

I can imagine that battleships will become the primary fleet warfare ships which I believe was the original idea. If everyone is in a drake except a few battleships, it will be obvious which ones are going to be doing the bombarding. If there are fleets of mostly battleships it will be less obvious and if things go south, some bombardment ships will be able to GTFO.

DUST will also bring caps to their knees. If planetary guns are as powerful as we saw in the last DUST trailer (one shotting a dread) then warfare will be EXTREMELY different. I can see caps becoming easy kills if the guns are as powerful as they appear. Sub-cap fleets will start hugging planets as sanctuary from capital ships. Sov warfare will stop being about who can drop the most Titans onto the field and more about direct head on combat.

Watch_ Fred Fred Frederation_ and stop cryptozoologist! Fight against the brutal genocide of fictional creatures across New Eden! Is that a metaphor? Probably not, but the fru-fru- people will sure love it!

While I think the changing of the BS roles is awesome, what I am really looking forward to is the changing of Corp and Alliance Logistics.

What if we can set up research slots on a planetary lab, and Dust Mercs could storm the facility and capture the BPO?
