Hi,

This thread is for feedback on the following features that are now live on Singularity. There is going to be a dev blog on the changes, but in the meantime feel free to look around and post in here:

Localisation: The Japanese client is now fully localized, including all names

Search: The people&places search doesn't require a type to be selected anymore. It is also possible to search for exact matches. In the localized clients you can also search for both, English and translated names as far as translations are available (they are available for Japanese, but not for Russian and German at this point)

Bilingual functionality: In the Systems Settings Menu, you can select whether you want to have "important names" in English or translated on the localized clients (again, as far as translations are available). You can also select if you want translations in a tooltip, and if you want the terms where the tooltip is available marked or not. You can also right-click on those terms and copy the translations in your clipboard.

Please note that this is still work in progress and currently being polished.

So.. I set the client to Japanese and now nothing makes sense to me? Is this intended?

Hi, thank you for your report - we are looking into it. In the meantime, could you try clearing your cache?

I cannot find the button to clear the cache... or the button to switch languages once I've selected English.
I think I'll just reinstall the client.

We have posts on the localized forums, too, but this feedback thread is not only about localization but also about the new search functionality.

I just did a few searches and the three-character minimum limit worked a bit oddly. I realized that each word of the search functions as an exact match if the WORD is less than three characters (rather than the whole search string).

For example, I search for "CCP S" and would expect to find "CCP Shiny" to be one result, but you're not in the results list, despite my search string being 5 characters long in total.

Likewise, a search for "CCP A" only returns "A CCPmuppet" rather than all names starting with "CCP A" as I intended. I tried using single and double quotes around the search term and neither gave me the intended result. Attempting to pad the string with common wildcard characters also did not work (I suppose you're stripping non-alphanumeric characters which makes perfect sense).

Searching for just "CCP" does give 100 (which appears to be the maximum number of characters returned in a search) characters starting with "CCP" but in random order.

But by searching for "XIV" I was able to determine that there are two star systems with fourteen planets have stations located at the fourteenth planet or at a moon: Isanamo and 4GQ-XQ. However, the stations were also listed in a random order.

If you only have a partial name to search for, displaying the results in order would be more useful than a random list of names. Unless I'm missing a hidden option for ordering the results.

Yes, the search configuration works by matching prefixes of words that are three characters in length or more. I know this can be confusing and I am definitely looking for good feedback on how we can make this less so, while at the same time not drowning you in results. It is quite possible that we'll end up with a system where you can use wildcards on all the words in your search, BUT at least one of them needs to be three characters or more. Does that sound like it would alleviate some confusion?

The search results are ordered by relevancy. Obviously, when you search the term "CCP" you'll end up with a pretty random grouping since each result has a similar weight. The idea there is that if you searched for "Bob Jita", then names like "Jita Bob" and "Bob Jita" would show up above matches like "Super Bobarrific Jitadude". Adding a "re-sort" button to allow you to view the results in alphabetical order may certainly be something worth considering though and of course, we'll consider all feedback on that.

Lastly, 100 was the limit because of a misconfiguration, you should now be able to have 500 results from the search, whether you are searching a specific category or using the "Any" option. I fixed that yesterday, though, so it may not yet be on the test server.

Thanks for the feedback, it's awesome stuff!

IThe option to search for corp-ticker has been removed I noticed. While it is possible to search for corporations by their ticker (S.RAT got me perfectly to my own corp), the ability to search for them specifically would be nice so the ticker results don't get mixed by corporations who have those tickers letters in their name.

Good luck with finding the corp that has [THE] as their ticker for instance.

I also tried searching with 'exact term' enabled for the (random) likely ticker '-A-' which got me -A- and .-A- and .-A-. I guess tickers are getting scarce. But still, is that what exact term should do?

I look for 'exact term' on my name and I still get 3 results: Marcus Tobiaz, Tobiaz Dark and yours truly. How exact is that 'exact term' anyway? Has this to do with people that chose their names since EVE got the option to add a 'last name'?

And while you're guys are at it, it would be very nice to automatically put the focus on the textbox, so players can open the P&P and start typing. MANY people would like that, just check CCP Soundwave's threadnough of 'little things'.
