Personally i think a movies or TV series based on discovering THE wormhole would be awesome... start out how advanced humans are, that all the galaxy has been colonised, then discovering the WH half way through, going through it, starting colonisation there and ends when it collapses.

Next movies/series would be based upon each race before making a show of the novels

CCP is like Marvel Comics.

They won't realize what they got until they no longer own the Rights to it.

1st Movie = Rise and Fall of The Jove Empire

2nd Movie = New Beginning, Four Earth Clans Discover the EVE gate, typical human bullshit creates strife and divide.

3rd Movie = War Between Main Factions, intro to Pirate Factions

4th Movie = More War.

5th Movie = return of the Jove Empire

Maybe they can call the movie Clear Skies?
This. "Clear Skies" is that good.

But, I'd support the initiative if a 3rd-party, anime-based studio had interest in licensing the rights to a film or even a serial show. Might even be a good segway into a more advanced form of Incarna and the upcoming Planetside Dust project. Shoot me now for even mentioning that junk.

I write 3rd party because CCP doesn't need any distractions for its grunt workers asigned to EVE-related tasks. Management, on the other hand, can go fist(*) one another for days on-end and the IP probably wouldn't suffer much.

The truth is, a movie about the Lore is usually a bad idea. Example, the Lord of the Rings series would not have been so popular if the only book in the series was Similarian. Star Wars quit being fun when we knew what Vader was like as a kid. Having vague (but privately well documented) background information makes a fictional world feel deeper. Clear Skies rocks so much because it has a full world of background to draw upon (plus the freakin' awesome storytelling.) If I were to write a movie about the collapse of the EVE gate, I'd have it be about some backwards rural settler on New Eden surviving the apocalypse of the collapse. Maybe, just maybe he meets a fellow named Jove, or a corp named such, or a ship, but just as a wink to the players.

Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.

Yep, that's certainly true. Lore in and of itself would be a bad idea, but the characters and events within the lore are what makes things interesting. Add to that the Hero's Journey plot and some sort of cataclysm like the eve gate collapse or the Amarr attack on Pator, and you have a candidate for a good movie or series.

I just spent the last hour checking out some of the CCP trailers. As a huge sci-fi buff (as many Eve players would also be) I realised just how much I miss the great space epics of the 70's and 80's.

For mine, some of the Eve clips are just staggering and if they were ever made movie length it'd do more for subs than any tweak could ever do. Movie takings alone would bring some nice coin.

Is CCP ever going to do such a project?

Would you go and watch it?

Go watch clear Skies, best EVE movie I have seen. Well written, well done, and well produced for being an indy film with no official support from CCP.

Gah, you stole what I was going to say. Clear Skies is the next best thing, but I would like to see a full-on lore related movie with BSG quality or better graphics.

My initial reaction was similar... CLEAR SKIES with bigger budget!

However, I do think so many parts of EVE could make for a compelling visual narrative, either TV or Movies. I honestly wasn't a huge Sci Fi fan (excepting StarWars and StarTrek of course) until I found a revitalization in the genre with EVE.

The big turnoff with genre fiction in general (be it sci fi, fantasy, steampunk, or whatever) is the tendency to be "ooh, look at all this sci stuff where sh*t happens!" instead of "oh all this sh*t is happening, oh and it just happens to be in space." Where EVE as a sci fi game is exactly that... sh*t happens, and would be just as compelling if it happened on 17th century wooden sailing ships. EVE's specific strength is that it lets sh*t happen.

I used to have a maelstrom called "The Mayflower". Can it have a part?

CCP will release 3 stellar movies in a trilogy, come back later and make a 'prequel trilogy' which will suck, and then continue to 'modify' it making every fan of the franchise feel everlasting shame...

I'd love to see some (good) movie being made, but let's be honest. Most might just complain it's not just about shooting stuff in space and spaceships with all the characters, clothes, love-story, talking, blabla, etc. in it. :)

But when was the last GOOD space movie? I've watched 2001, Apollo 13, Event Horizon, Sunshine and Solaris too many times.

These are just my top favorites though. There are others but I haven't yet found a single (recent) movie that simply involves space and something bad happening, you know, on a full Hollywood budget. Something that captivates you and makes you WANT to be in space.

That's where the hook-line-and-sinker is.

I think the last Clear Skies (3 I think) would make a great movie; and you wouldn't have to do the storyboard either :)

I'd love for an EVE related movie to be produced, it would definitely have to be a chain of films though as there is so much to cover that it would be impossible to do it all justice in a single film.

The sad truth is that if CCP were to turn around and say they want to do a movie, a good portion of the community will kick up a storm ranting about how they're putting resources into something other than the FiS section of the game. :\
Perhaps if CCP ever got a good sum of money and were able to outsource the project with a couple of the chronicle writers having to proof everything before it gets finalised.

The last space movie worth watching in my opinion was Cargo (2009), it wasn't on a Hollywood budget though.
Not everyone's cup of tea as the film is in German and not everyone knows the language or likes subtitles, I'd say it's well worth a watch though if you don't mind those.

They could go even further and say "this movie was based on actual events".
That'll definitely confuse any people watching who aren't familiar with EVE. :D

Also, his ship's self-destruct timer is running and every podkill gives him an extra 30 seconds to live.
