Hey y'all, was hoping to get a few pointers. I just got my first mac today, and can't for the life of me figure out how to play eve without my right click. Am I doing something wrong? Or do I just need to cope with the lack of a right mouse button?

Any tips for playing on the mac client would be fantastic! Thanks!

I am assuming a laptop.....as all other macs have a right click...although it is not enabled by default

That being said 99% of programs and the OS use CTRL-click as right-click. The other 1% use cmd-click

It certainly is :) Macbook pro 13inch.
So ctrl click should get me through eve? If I buy a magic mouse how do I activate the right click? You say it is not active by default?
Thanks again!

I only have a beat up old Mac Book Pro but find that having two fingers on the touchpad when clicking will be interpreted as a right click.

yes, however my meatstiks activate that too much so i keep touchpad click turned off....YMMV

If you get a 2 button mouse (ANY mouse will work and i don't like magic mouse for gaming, but like it for most everything else) Go to control panels -> mouse -> and there is a setting for what the right click does (Secondary button is right click)

On a trackpad you could get the secondary click:

a) click with 2 fingers

b) configure a corner of your track pad as secondary button

Go through the optons in the trackpad and mouse (when you get one) system preference panels. That is where you will enable right-click for the mouse, and where you can enable two-finger right-click or trackpad corner right-click functionality for the trackpad.

I highly recommend getting used to the trackpad gestures. It may be a bit overwhelming at first, but once you get used to it, you can't go back.

Two finger scrolling, three fingers to switch spaces, it's all pretty sweet. There are a couple that I've turned off (I have no use for LaunchPad, for example), but overall they're incredibly useful and I hate using a mouse now.

Word of advice, don't be shy to come forward if your having a mac issue. Ask in here or search and I bet someone has had the same issue etc.
I've done that a few times and I have to say that some of the knowledge in here is great, there's people in here who really know what they're talking about.

Not seen any trolls in here yet either, which is great.

This. ^^

Or get yourself an external mice. I particularly like those cable less Logitechs, M510 in my case. Works amazingly well. You just gotta remember to get your tracking speed to the middle in the System Settings.

I find the magic mouse with swiping gestures on the mouse and right click is win win....trackpad alone isn't as precise/quick as a mouse.

+1 to this. I have an iMac, and use their standalone trackpad. I only go back to a mouse when they pay me to (at work).

it's absolutely worth it to take the time and learn gestures.

WIreless Logitech mice tend to be fairly awesome. I've also got a Dell mouse that lets you change the sensitivity with a mouse button - not too useful in EVE, but a lifesaver in some other games.

If you're looking to let your trackpad right-click like one on a PC, go into System Preferences and look at "Trackpad." There should be an option saying "Secondary click" or something like that. Enable it, and you're good to go!

Hello all.

I am new to Mac too but a returning player in EVE.

I am also a fan of cryptic passwords and my EVE password is no different. However I've stumbled upon an error or possibly I'm doing something wrong here.

My password includes a lot of special characters but when I try to log into the game client it won't accept the key $.
The key works, I can type the password in a document and copy paste it into the client to log in. I'm not mistyping the password, the $-key simply doesn't work in the client ... I just tested in game too and it doesn't work in the chat either.

Odd, works for me. Could it be a localization thing? Are you using a version other than the English one?

Completely forgot to put that in my earlier post.

I'm using the original Danish Apple Keyboard with numeric keypad.
Apple Store link to specific item: http://store.apple.com/dk/product/MB110DK/B

When I get home from work I'll try set it to English and see if that makes a difference.

Changing localization didn't work. I also get the mouse-click bug where I often have to click 2-4 times to get it to react and at random it seems to think I'm holding the mouse button down.

Happens both with ,y Logitech G700 and the magic mouse.

**** it. The Mac client os so horrible I'm gonna quit it.
