L4 Missioning Machariel without Faction mods

Hi all,

Hopefully this isnt a double post as I already tried this once hit post and it seems to have disappeared.

I am relatively recently back and have been missioning in a raven with an alt tanking in a CNR. This guy however has the standings and gets the missions so can be first in and primaried. Bored with the ravens I, possibly inadvisedly, brought a Mach for this guy. I fly minmatar and caladri - have better shield skills than armor skills. Looking up missioning set ups for the Mach they all seem to focus on faction shield mods which atm i can't afford. I have been flying the following fit;

800mm Repeating Art II * 8
Salvager

100MN AB II
Invuln Field II * 2
Shield Boost Amplifier II
Med Shield Bosster II (permarun) or Large Shield Booster II Pulsed

Tracking Enhancer II * 3
Gyro II * 3
DCU II

CCC 1 *3

This fit seems pretty thin despite EHP of 81K on EFT - have had to warp out several times with just part pocket aggro. If i had been pointed would have already have lost it. Often cant launch drones or will aggro other groups and have trouble locking frigs\spider drones before they are too close to hit. Would appreciate any advice on the most effective way to make this a more effective tank without mega-expensive mods- ? LSE + Purger or Extenders in place of the CCCS?

Thanks

X-Large Booster for pulses is mandatory.
Mission Specific Hardeners.......maybe dump the Shield Amp and add another.

That's for starters. CCC rigs could go as well. Mach is all about DPS, not tank.

Get Gallente BS up to at least 4 for range....

This is a fairly cheap build I use with great success:

Seconding the XL booster. Pulse it, obviously. I get by with a relatively cheap RF XL (which runs about 50mil, so no breaking the bank there). Otherwise that looks perfectly viable. Use range as your tank when you have to -- use range as a damage multiplier when you don't.

I use the below without having any problems when I can't use my Nightmare. Don't have the skills for the T2 Ac's yet. But if I fit T2 in HQ with my skills I have a small cpu problem, but could just drop a gyro and put co-proc. Some of the mission guides have links to you tube of people running them in various ships, one being a mach, they also share their fits.. but as luck would have it I can't find one now :(.

Well, looks like we all agree about the 800mm autos.

My mids and rigs vary the most.

Top slots, as seen, 800's and a salvager/tractor. I prefer tractor since i have a noctis alt.

mids, are an XL-C5L (due to cpu limits), Explosive active hardner, (I only do angel missions), an invuln active, Tracking comp with tracking script (totally worth it), and an RF ab, tho 100mn t2 is fine, or any gistii etc. Obviously pulse the booster as needed. most times i don't even need it.

Lows are like most, but i run 3xGyro and 3xTracking enhancers with a damage control

Rigs, i like sig tanking, so i use two aux thrusters and one polycarb.

Does the job for me every time. But like i said, i only run angel missions.

I think you've misread the fittings, they don't focus on the shield booster, they focus on the faction gyros - like any other wellmade mission fitting. I personally run a faction shield booster simply because it feels silly to use a meta 4 one, and the next step up from a 100k shield booster is a 100mil one. That said, the 100k one does the job fine.

As for rigs, fitting a cap injector allows you to fit whatever you want for rigs, and honestly what you fit there isn't that important. My current preference is a t2 burst aerator and a low-friction nozzle joint.(coupled with 4 Gyro, 3 te's) I can imagine going defensive rigs and a TC could be quite effective aswell if you have some other ship running missions where tracking isn't that important.

XL booster for pulse tank on machs or maels

machs are usually pulse tanked, given the machs exceptional speed its usually worth the investment into a faction or deadspace AB as you will likely be permarunning the AB (a mach is not a ship you park at the warpin and never move with).

Here is a fairly cheap mach fit for pve. The fit is very tight on CPU due to the T2 booster, the gist hardeners aren't too bad (probably less than 50mil for the pair). You need the RF gyros to make the fit work (your probably at 200mil for those), and the faction AB is very worth it on the mach. First upgrade to this fit would probably be a deadspace shield booster (likely Pith A or B type XL) which will up the tank considerably. I have it set up for serpentis/gurista, but you will want use the hardeners for whatever rats you normally fight, the ifield provides more tank than a boost amp does since the mach does not have a booster bonus like the maelstrom does (2 hardener + boost amp tanks work better on maels due to their bonuses).

Use your fitting, but pulse a x-large shield booster. With the afterburner and some transversal velocity it isn't that hard to force enemy ships to miss you and their bigger missiles (i.e. cruise missiles and torpedos) won't cause that much damage due to rather small signature radius (even with shield rigs and almost unskilled rigging skill) and high velocity. I'd then try to get a Gist C-Type X-Large Shield Booster. It's not cheap - that's true - and not really mandatory, but it makes life a lot easier and you definitely won't need a second module slot for shield boosting (second booster or amplifier). After all, the ship hull costs 700-800m, so investing 300-400m for one module that is able to save your ship, if something goes wrong, isn't that expensive. Also the gank possibility doesn't increase that much, considering it's only one module out of twenty (it can still drop but chances aren't that great after all cause it's win/lose depending on one single roll). I wouldn't use faction mods for the other shield modules, as you don't win a lot.even 3-4 % resistances shouldn't make a difference if you're flying carefully (which you should anyway).

Right now I'm using this setup (still experimenting with fall-off range vs. tracking bonus as well as working on my large projectile skills for T2 guns):

Thanks for the input. Going to do the pulse X-L as advised. I am having trouble using the speed for tanking as couple missions in a row getting webbed by spider drones i havent managed to kill on the way in. Even if webbed i guess i keep moving trying to maximize the angular velocity to things shooting at me.

That's a basic version - I personally use a Shadow Serpentis MWD but even with that, the fitting is fairly cheap.
