I've been doing missions quit a bit for the past few weeks, trying to get all the empires up to lvl 3+ but today got a mission that i didnt want to do and abandoned it. I was immediately penalised massively. The standing hit was roughly 5* missions completed worth. This is the first time i have dropped a mission in over a month. I always thought the penalty was for dropping a second within 4 hours of abandoning the first. Is this some sort of change to the penalty system or have i been gimped somehow? The mission wasnt a storyline mission, was just a random "go kill x faction ships" (the faction ships were amarr)

* Right so i just did another mission and handed in and my 10 mission initial estimate was off, i lost around 0.19 standing and i get 0.05 standing per mission so 4-5 mission standing loss for abandoning my first mission in over a month. I am totally dreading ever having to abandon 2 missions in the 4 hour period. I suspect it will ship me back to 0.01 lvl 1's

When a mission is offered, it can be declined with no penalty once per Agent within 4 hours. If done more than once, it will incur Agent and Corp negative standing hit.

If the mission was accepted and then quit or failed, it will incur a negative Faction, Corp and Agent standing hit.

This 'Plan' can be used to quickly help boost Faction standings:

you can decline a single mission with no loss of standings, providing you haven't declined another with that agent during the last four hours.

If you decline two in four hours you get quite a nasty standings loss .... equivalent to several mission gains like you mentioned. You do get a warning window when this is going to happen tho, and you have to confirm.

When I was grinding for standings and got a mission I didn't like (anti-faction or lowsec) I'd decline. If I got a second in under four hours I'd shift to a different agent ... either lower agent in same system or move a few systems to another similar level agent ... or sometimes just run some missions with another corp until my four hours was up.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

aha i had accepted the mission but wasnt flying the right ship for it and thenabandoned it- thats why i got the loss in standings. All good an hour later and i had achieved lvl 3 missions for my gallente faction, and now im learning a whole new range of skills and tactics to take on my targets and win
