Check with your bank if there's any fee for using your credit card abroad and what the exchange rate is like.

My Danish VISA card has no fees involved with a transaction in Iceland, and the exchange rate is very decent. And in Iceland, there's no places that doesn't take credit card. Even the pizza delivery boy takes credit card. In fact, they very much prefer that you use card.

This I noticed when visiting iceland, they use a crazy amount of credit cards for everything from a slice of pizza to a can of coke.

It really takes the edge of, if I wanted currency I just withdrew the amount I wanted from kiosks using my bank card but I am from Europe and didn't have any costs associated with that.

With the CSM elections coming to a close and fanfest nearly upon us, it occurs to me that perhaps I ought to look into the local currency of our esteemed benefactors, CCP hf. The problem that I have, living in a non-major city in the United States, is that my local bank does not sell ISK. I certainly would not want to purchase ISK at the airport in Reykjavik, because I am under the impression that the USD to ISK conversion rate in the home country would be distorted; moreover, I am warned that often there is no way to sell your ISK back to USD once the event is done. I am not the only person with this question, so I am hoping that responses to this thread will assist other potential travelers.

Do NOT buy ISK from the shadowy web bots known as GOON / Russians I hear its often a scam, bannable, ill gotten, and if you get caught they'll lock you up as a suspicious character when reported...

Did you know that the short name for Icelandic krona is isk?

Only those who didn't bother to actually read the OP, which is just fine with me.

Thanks for this reply, and for every other reply that has mentioned this. I do have a VISA card, so I should be set.

I've been to Canada, and I have seen what your conquest entails. The new world order will be very clean, and it will have efficient public transport.

Just use an ATM. If your bank is any good at all*, you can use your cards anywhere.
Plus, y'know, everywhere takes plastic these days.

* No accounting for american banks being stuck in the dark ages.

Aren't those the same organizations that run your banks? :P

Seriously, though, the most dark age banking system in the first world I've seen is Japan circa 2006. I'm going back to Tokyo later this year, hopefully it's improved.

kr, or Íkr, is the currency symbol for the Icelandic Króna from my understanding.

According to Yahoo! finance, $1 = kr125.69

I felt that the OP was a legitimate question regarding Eve Online Fanfest attendance. I am not sure how it is perceived to be a troll?
