I understand Caldari are not favored in PVP..if I were to make a new character what race is best?

Also what are the strongest PVP Caldari ships?

Your character race does not matter for that ... it's the skillbooks you train that allow you to fly each race's ships, and every character is able to train all racial skillbooks.

I'm no PvPer but see a fair few drakes being used in PvP (and an awful lot of them in PvE of course) and tengu are hugely popular atm for PvP (again they're superb PvE ships too).

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

You can create a character of whichever race you like and train any ships later, difference is about 12 hours or so (doesn't matter at all). Caldari ships are useful in PvP but with limitations:
1. You will be pigeonholed to support role (Jammer - Kitsune, Blackbird, Scorpion etc). You will be primared and focused down most of the time.
OR:
2. You will only use 2 ships (1 if you are not rich) 90% of the time: Drake and Tengu. You will be mocked now sometimes about this.

While not "optimal" PvP hulls, the Moa and Ferox both make decent blaster boats, if guns are your thing. The Naga is also decent sniper DPS in the proper gang/fleet.

Get into a Drake and stay there. Races don't matter, Caldari can fly and do anything an Amarr pilot can.

This is so boring. Need to try a cruise Raven asap.

@OP: there is more...

- Hawk and Harpy are awesome after the AS boost
- Corm is great after the destroyer boost
- Rokh is a nice sniper as well as a very capable blaster boat after the hybrid fix
- Caracal is top notch as frig killer atm and will be a great all-round missile cruiser after the ship tier revamp hopefully
- Griffin, BB, Scorp, Rook and (ofc) Falcon...all very good
- Shield capitals should be more usefull after shield bonus fix + shield hardener addition + shield transporter CPU fix
- ...and I really want to try a cruise Raven with 2x hvy neut soon. Maybe I can surprise someone ^^

Join a corp or alliance that is fighting other people and fly a Blackbird, Scorpion or Basilisk. You'll be loved by all. And jamming is the most full filling thing in the game. Your five million ISK cruiser just knocked three far more expensive ships out of the fight as effectively as if you'd blown them up.

You asked me once, what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already. Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world.

Just don't be surprised when you're primaried. Still, Blackbirds are relatively inexpensive, and you can harvest great amounts of tears over "OP ECM." Which may or may not be a valid point.

Nothing gets more entertaining than watching your opponents panic when their ship gets jammed to the point it's nothing but a big target

Dont let old doctrine of 0.0 warriors scare you. In the area of < Battleship PVP ships caldari actually shine, many ppl saw it over the last years, some still dont. If you are not afraid of crosstraining at least a bit you will get amazing opportunities.

Kestrel and Merlin (Merlin with 10km Optimal Pulse Laser and Rockets) are amazing frigates, Hawk and Harpy (especially the Harpy) one of the best if not THE best PVP AF atm. A Blackbird is cheaper then other ppl ships ammo and can turn the tide of small group combat (just tank the thing and use your RANGE, your optimal ECM range should be around 80km) and the falcon is just amazing (also here ... use a damn 1600mm plate and jam at maximal optimal range - use your cloak and around gates PtP jumps around the gate).

The Drake is maybe the best BC atm. You NEVER get primaried, so go MAX DPS, even then oyu have the tank of other BCs. Any drake except the nano drake should have 3 BCUs (+ point + web) and the actually projected DPS of it isnt really lower then Harbinger or Hurricane. For going nuts get a HAM Drake with web+point where you have an 18km range and massive DPS. Just dont fly it overtanked.

And yes, the Naga is also a nice ship - just learn the Blasters and after crosstraining you can get into the Talos which facemelts with 1000 DPS and the same tracking then a harbinger thanks to the hybrid buff.

Oh, and you can fly the scorpion. 130km Optimal ECM BS. But you have to be in mood for ECM for 50% of the good caldari ships ofc.

Your choice.

There are more AC and Pulse Merlins around than Hybrid ones. You're pimping a fit that requires crosstraining to another races weapon and calling the ship fine. There would seem to be a problem here with either the ship bonuses, hybrids, or alternate weapon fitting requs...
Same thing with the projectile Ferox, but I reckon people think that's fine too?

Rokh is a good fleet boat, but does the Cruise Raven shine?. No. Period. Torp Raven? Better off in a Mega or something.

Caldari has been really buffed with regards to PVP. If you like missiles or rockets then these ships are really nice for PVP:

1. Caldari Navy Hookbill: Either as kiting setup with missiles or as brawling setup with rockets. Fast and a lot of fun to fly. A lot of medium slots for whatever you prefer... dual prop or webs or target disruptors or ...
2. Caldari Navy Caracal: Get Assault Missiles, get Nano, get Shield... very cool kiting setup for killing small stuff from long range but also for larger stuff in fleet. You will have unusual speed and agility for a Caldari ship of that size... so you can run if necessary :-)
3. Drake: As already said... best dps tank and damage for low price.
4. Tengu: 100 MN Afterburner fit for the win!

Have fun!

Just popped in here to say that the Merlin is awesome for a T1 frigate. Fly the MSE buffer fit and people will be surprised at your 7.6k EHP. I've been able to engage Thrashers and win, and I took out a Wolf a few days ago with one. I generally fly with blasters - the recent buff to blasters and Null means that you can kite within scram range and still do decent damage if you need to.
