Ok, so this is what happened today:

-Open eve, update client
-New launcher shows up, crashes while creating a file (¿? step 1) Ugh
-Open it again, now it gets stuck downloading at 56%, (it said 0 / 0 Mb downloaded) UghUgh
-Close it and open it again, this time the update is downloaded, but about 70% on installation it shows this message "Client update was unsuccessfull" UghUghUgh
-Open it again while checking forums: "Client is updated" Arrow "Wat" Straight
-Pres Play, splashcreen shows up, game doesn't start at all, not even tries to, no error, nothing. Sad
-Delete cached files, still nothing Evil
-Deleted user settings, nothing Evil

This is so frustrating.

I'm afraid that the install has become corrupted and you have two ways to resolve it:

a) Reinstall the game
b) Go into the EVE Online app and the contents of it. Find and delete the common.ini and restart the game.

Similar problem for me. It takes 10 hours to reinstall the game...10 hours!...and I don't know if it will work even then. Thanks...

This fixed it for me! Thanks very much!

For everyone:

1) Use Terminal or Finder to work your way to this path:
EVE Online.app/Contents/Resources/EVE Online.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/CCP/EVE

2) Delete "common.ini"

3) After starting the game, missing parts of the patch will be reinstalled and your client should start. Worked for me! :)

Deleted the common.ini and now it says the part is missing and i should run the repair.exe (which as anyone knows, does not run on a mac) even if i could find it.

Should never ever delete these things. Just move them out. Try this:

Move common.ini to the HD or something. Just get it out the app packages.
Run the patcher, it should download something.
Run the game. The game will (haha, I love this part!) download a patch and reboot!! Haha! Isn't that great. Wait, what?
That should be it.

Can you please explain how this worked? I tried with a good copy of the client and I tried with a copy that got ruined from the patch and neither would launch. Did you do it before or after. This is BS. F U CCP.

Do it after the patch. And I hope you didn't delete it, should never do that. Only delete when you know it was the correct fix xD

Probably a good idea to make sure all EVE paths are default (no modded filepaths/multi-clienting

But yeh, patch till it fails using the launcher, then run the launcher, it should download the common.ini again, hit play, EVE will patch, restart, and then should be good.

Ok, so I had no problems updating my folk's iMac (where I'm housesitting for the week)... But when I tried to run the update on my macbook...

MacBookPro3
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 D
Processor Speed: 2.2 G
Number Of Processors:
Total Number Of Cores:
L2 Cache: 4
Memory: 2

Chipset Model: GeForce 8600M GT
Type: G
Bus: PC
PCIe Lane Width: x
VRAM (Total): 128

Both running 10.6.8

It downloaded a patch nearing 200MB in size and then quit, saying "Client Update was unsuccessful"

So I tried following the advice from CCP Cascade here (luckily had a .dmg file of the client from last week here), and it downloaded the 200MB patch file again and quit, saying "Client Update was unsuccessful"

Arg

I'd post the launcher log, but the forum keeps telling me I can't post html even tho I obscured all the http tags. Whatever.

EDIT:
Saw this in system.log:

I really don't get why I'm DLing 3+ gigs for a patch this size....

It might be more, but I dunno because it keeps failing at some point after 2 gigs.

removing the common.ini worked for my older iMac too. Thank you to the person you posted the entire path.

Thanks to Cascade for posting that solution and to Badhor for the pathway to the common.ini file. I never would have found that.

I was having the same issue and it is solved. I did a restart and that seemed to help also.

Ok, back out there.

Cheers

Can't log in on my macbook, same issue as above.

This is really getting old, CCP.

EDIT:

On the upside, Steam is offering Portal 2 for half off today...
