"It has come to our attention that some players are making use of a broken game mechanic involving web modules preventing people from warping, for the purpose of killing them. This is a clear exploit and anyone found abusing this will be dealt with accordingly. Exploiting may result in a permanent suspension from the game. Our Game Design team will be working to deploy a fix for this issue in the near future."- http://community.eveonline.com/news.asp?a=single&nid=4944

So apparently now if you kill someone by using this exploit theres a good chance you will get banned forever...
If you bot you get banned for 14 day and become unable to trade the character...

Now it might just be me, but I think botting should be punished just as "harshly" as exploiting... what do you guys think?

Botting should be instant perma-ban imo. As for broken code, we have to deal with CCP's negative broken game mechanics everyday so if an advantages one comes around every so often, then jump on the bandwagon I say.

Too many people in positions of power use botting, so why would CCP seriously go after that? It's easier to incarcerate those smoking a joint than those raping and murdering...

Oh, would CCP kindly ban every single faction police in this case. On a bad sec status toon of mine I have frequently undocked and clicked warp in hisec, only to be webbed by the faction police, rendering me in a near-permanent state of entering warp, unable to re-dock, move, cancel warp or actually warp for 30-40 seconds. All the time taking significant damage, luckily only ships such as the maelstrom/hyperion have been slow enough to catch, so have tanked them. Had other people report this too.

Damn nature, you scary!

I'm pretty sure the 14 day, 30 day, permaban progression thing applies to this as well as botting.

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Sometimes when I post, I look at my sig and wish that I'd follow my own god damned advice.

I'm pritty sure that wasn't specified :) my main point really was that botting needs to be perma ban

Heh, personly I have never tried using this exploit, my only regret is not trying to before it became a "exploit"
No... this is a anti botting thread disquised as a "rage over newly declared exploit"

Came looking for tears.

Left Thirsty.

Anyways temp banning a bot player usually makes them into an 'honest' player, rare few times have those boots gotten the third strike.

The core difference: one of them is easily provable (using a module in a specific way), the other isn't (running a third-party program to automate actions).

Exploits, if bad enough, can **** up a server so bad it needs to be rolled back. I've yet to see bots do this kind of harm in such a short time. Never mind the fact that sometimes people get their accounts hijacked. It would suck if, in the process of getting it back, it gets perma'ed because it got caught running a bot.

Temp banning isnt the only punishment botters get, they also get their characters locked so they cant sell the toon.

Every crime doesn't deserve the same punishment.

Exactly. When people run anoms in null, we usually get a system going (possibly with alts, whatever) and do the exact same thing over and over. For all intents and purposes, we look identical to bots. Except if you wave to us most of us will wave back. And we smack local when gangs roll through.

Wow PL and friends are having a rough couple of weeks. First they find out they're not going to be able to exploit with their Titans for much longer and now they find out they can't exploit to kill JFs.
