Again.... this was very poorly played!!!!

You should have waited until...

1) You had more concrete details. I have never seen anything in a game that was HYPED on the forums do well when it was finally released!! NEVER!

2) You should have flew it through the CSM for a sound check. They will tell you if it is gonna fly with us, your customers. Chances are ... well ... nevermind .. I hope you make a liar out of me.

To quote the incomparable HAN SOLO ... "I have a bad feeling about this." Roll

CCP, you have all my respect. Asking yourself "what am I doing wrong" is never easy, and it took you time but you finally did it.

Some might say this blog is 'empty', but they don't understand its purpose: a free and spontaneous message to players, to mark the end of a bad era, and the renewal of something that was lost for a while: passion for EVE Big smile

I greet this with great skepticism. I have known many people to say something along the lines of: "Today is a new day. I am done doing ____ wrong. I will now do things better." Only to see their big change last maybe 1 week or 10 days.

I am not saying that CCP cannot refocus and put themselves back on course. But I will wait to see them do it before I start throwing out applause and accolades as if they just doubled their user base in the last 3 weeks (last 2 weeks of logging in, things seem to be headed in quite the other direction).

You are right, the blog isn't 'empty'. What it is is a statement that should not be out there for us to read any more than the 'Greed is Good' memo should have been (which would have been better titled 'Profit is Good'). I felt the font blog and the ship spinning blog to be much more useful. Does font readability improve actual game play? Not for me. But it is making 'something' about Eve better. That is what we want to see. Work and progress on improving the player/community experience. At least for the majority of us.

I may not like you or your point of view but you have a right to voice it.

As any creepy dude around there, and a lover of all things Amarr, i'd be easy to please as a costumer:

PLEASE, bring back the gregorian chanting to Amarr stations. Either as an option in the ESC menu or whatever.

That is all, o7

My current opinion is this: Finish Incarna. Finish it PROPERLY.

Then start fixing everything else. You guys launched Incarna with the goal of bringing in new blood and failed horribly due to a halfassed release, and that has to be fixed by making sure Incarna has the features it needs to be meaningful.

I respect the needs of the FiS pilots, but I returned to EVE specifically because Incarna was coming. And I was really upset by its mediocre launch featureset.

"a refocusing and reprioritization on a scale unheard of within our company"

What could that possibly mean?

Could it by any chance mean CCP will mass murder by face stabbing all customer support staff which don't generally give a s**t about solving your company's clients' problems, but only on closing as many support cases with as less effort as possible?

Or maybe it could somehow mean you guys are going to start considering your hardware architecture design is at most childish and think of a better way to build a platform that will allow your clients to play their favorite game without lag, crashes and having to deal with your support staff?

Hmm or maybe it could mean you are finally going to pay some more attention to the unbalanced game mechanics and ship bonuses vs their roles?

Or perhaps you are going to finally realize that half of your developers are most likely playing solitaire instead of fixing software issues?

Oh wait let's not forget the databases you guys are using...and website...really, this is 2011, good morning!!!

Respectfully,
Alex

Thanks CCP, is good to have the old customer service shining through again!

I agree with how it was stated, a reprioritization, While all the bells and whistles are nifty, they havent really upped eve in it's entirely to modern gamer times. There are plenty of features and options now in eve for all types of game players. A strong focus on what already exists will breathe a new generation into eve.

The strong focus on null sec changes to promote more travel there is a good start, anything to bring more thought and reaction will only be good, but also need to get rid of the old.

In my opinion, that is the most major thing holding back eve right now for many players. Pve feels archaic and outdated, plus gets dull quickly with just a look to eve survival. A reactive play environment with unknown spawns, needing to hunt for objectives etc is the way to go in terms of pve. Incursions, this is a real must. It is all farming! Make the spawns more unpredictible with different triggering and varying spawns would be huge to match the earnings a person receives.

Missioning, again, the incursion reward system is good for that. Imagine if agents offered different ranks of reward to promote more fleet missioning instead of just the solo ravens all the time, plus more challenge.

More depth and interconnections as well. The epics should be the storyline missions we get for the 16 missions or whatever. They are called storyline, so why is it I only go and buy some kernite every time. Also can integrate the incursion system into the event agents. Have at random an event agent send mail rarely to people of high enough standing to gather and perform some mass fleet task.

Exploration should offer the more expedition, it would be nice to have true expeditions going around, branching. Once again, the epic quest system can interconnect. More travel and less probing but balanced to earning rate would really improve the exploration enjoyment.

Faction warfare, another incomplete addition, has alot of potential. Faction warfare is good, but needs a reason. The control an empire has should have a bearing on something for that empire as a whole, maybe more agent reward, lower empire taxes, etc. To counter the one faction gaining permanent control, as an empire holds space, they can feel complacent and have it become less rewarding while the faction without systems get more of a drive to take control, this will push people joining to want to be the losing side to earn more. Allowing a fluxuation.

Pvp, alright, main thing I would like to see is more promotion of splitting up and independent squad movements without needing target path tracing, though that would be interesting if the servers could handle it. Or some sort of damage modifier penalty begining to take effect as things get blobbed up. There was a discussion a couple of years back that had many of the pvper's nays addressed, so if people want, I can track it down and re-link it.

These are just some of the ideas I like to think about. All the features in eve are great in idea, but we really need to start getting them connected to make them function as a whole. Eve for me at least almost seems like a whole series of smaller mini games. The only part truely complete and all encompassing is the market.

To quote Lfod Shi

The ratting itself is PvE. Getting away with it is PvP.

first off, the "rabble brigade" pays for your bills.

secondly, we've heard promises from CCP before about all the great stuff you plan on doing, and frankly very few have materialized. less talk, more coding.

Glad to hear it. Hopefully down the road the community and CCP will have rebuilt enough mutual trust to make that part implied, but for now I appreciate the specificity. Looking forward to hearing more details when they're ready.

Remember that you've got the CSM to help with communication. They'll have a pretty good idea of how players are going to react to all this stuff. Take advantage of the free consulting you've got access to.

You just don't know how to help yourself do you...

I'll post a dev blog with zero info to a community who just months ago were really pissed at me, then when they call me on it I'll call them the rabble brigade.

Your CEO said once "judge on what they do not what they say".

The hint here is: DO SOMETHING, show us your working or don't get the marks.

Well ... why didn't you say so in the first place. We thought you were referring to turnip greens!!! RollBlink

Seriously.... look forward to hearing what your re-prioritization on "spaceships" looks like. I am not getting my hopes up too high, but hopefully you will pleasantly shock us. With the CSM feeling the need in another thread to be "gravely concerned" ... and start taking a "like it" poll, it doesn't bode well over here.

We shall see. Give us something a bit more concrete and a bit more specific to look forward too. Right now, its all a bit too ... vague and conflicting.

CCP Zulu does not need me having his back but I thought I would like to chime in on behalf of Community.

We know how passionate you all are about EVE and I promise that we are working towards delivering top notch FiS content over the coming months.

Spaceships are all the rage right now, seriously, watch this space.

Fake edit - No, this is not the next '18 months' but a promise to you that we are going to deliver cool stuff Smile
