Why your CSM vote will only make things worse

Like several others who are indifferent to the CSM election drama, I won't be voting for a CSM candidate. I believe that the CSM, while well intended, only makes things worse for the players and for CCP.

I read through the CSM candidates election rhetoric with interest and amusement. Each one, in his own way, promises to make the game better. They promise to achieve this noble goal by fixing issues, balancing game play, introducing new content and serving the individual capsuleer above their corp and alliance interests.

Familiar? It should be, because this is the same load of crap you get to hear from politicians and representatives of all types in your real life.

The truth is none of these people really have a clue what it takes to make the game better. Read their election promises again if you think they do. Each has his or her vested interest and any proposition that impacts them (and every change in the game will effect one of them and their interests) will be resisted and twisted out of effective benefit

CCP have a more fundamental problem. They are losing touch with their player base. They think a player elected council that they call upon while connect them back. Or, more likely, CCP know it won't change a thing, but at least provides them (CCP), with a seemingly legitimate representation from their player base, that they can hide behind the next time the excrement hits the ceiling

CCP first built EVE Online with a passion and dedication that reaped them dividends. They focused on the core of the game - good gameplay and engaging content. Their devs probably played the game and had a good sense of what the player experienced. I am afraid that view seems to be lost entirely now. Like our real life elected representatives, every thing they need to achieve has to now be a compromise (in the guise of balance) that makes everyone happy, and that may have to be signed off by this gaggle of virtual dictators and celebrity wannabes - a.k.a the CSM

I love EVE Online. It is one of the best games out there. I admire CCP for creating it, and I truly hope that CCP will see the light and go back to the fundamentals of good game play, creating endless opportunity for the players and facilitate adrenaline pumping engagement. Things that made this game so successful in the first place

EVE is now a huge software project. There are bugs to be fixed, new features to add, old half-implemented features to iterate on: there is far too much work to easily accommodate given time constraints. The CSM is now a stakeholder in the process of assigning work to particular items. As such, it is important that you vote for someone who shares your perspective of the game.

For example, I don't participate in nullsec because I don't want someone else telling me how to play my game and when to log on (and in some cases, when to wake up and when I am allowed to spend the weekend away from the computer). So I voted for a representative who is deeply involved with the parts of the game that I enjoy playing.

By decrying the CSM as a political circus act, you are contributing to an outcome that will not satisfy you. Your polemic shows that no outcome will be acceptable to you. You need to focus on the parts of the game that you enjoy, select a candidate who shares your joy for the game, and make some noise about the parts of the game you like, and the broken things that interfere the most with your enjoyment.

Sitting back on the couch with your beer, expressing the defeatist attitude of, "they are all going to screw me over, why should I bother" is condemning yourself to e screwed over because you didn't bother.

Take part in the process, make some noise about what is broken, be heard, be counted, have an impact on the future of the game!

First of all this has been posted in the wrong sub forum.

Second, CSM cannot and never could change anything in EVE. They are there to voice the concerns from people that share an interest in aspects of the game that they are also interested in.

If you don't vote for someone that shares your interests then you know what will happen? Nothing. Your little part of the game will get overlooked by CCP because others are dragging their attention elsewhere.

It costs you nothing to vote and if it the candidate that you voted for doesn't change anything, so what? Are your taxes going to increase? Will you lose your job? Will the world slide into a recession? No, none of these things will happen so what's the harm in voting?

You never know, the CSM may actually help CCP make changes to EVE that a the players will like.

CCP will always have the final say as it's their business at the end of the day. Wages and bills to pay so they will never do what they perceive to be against their interests regardless of what we and the CSM ask for.

If anything, the CSM is a perfect :awesome: filter that is readily accessable to CCP, whether or not they're listened to is still up in the air, but just once listened to and potential drama diverted makes the CSM worth while.

OP while you maybe right about CSM motives it's the mixed bag of ideals is suppose to be the counter balance to individual agendas. The better fix to the CSM would be to limit CSM member terms and how many members from a single Alliance could be nominated every year.

That can be easily got round. Its better to just continue the current method. So far CSM 6 has been the most successful in a number of different ways, I'm not sure why people think the CSM is so bad, since 6 is the first one which was actually any good.

Too bad you never grasped the concept of the CSM.

But then again a large part of the candidates also never grasped the concept.

However there are a few who actually do know how to use the CSM as a tool to assist CCP in guiding EVE through the rough sea of development and player satisfaction.

I would say you probably didn't even read everyone's campaign material because many candidates didn't even make election promises, because they know CCP better than that and know that anything they'd like to change ISNT guaranteed in any way. All the CSM can do is provide feedback.

So, lets make this thread more constructive.

Meltan, what do YOU think it takes to make the game better? Serious question here. Let's talk about how to improve EVE!

If your statement had any scrap of truth in it, you would not see any CSM election in any form whatsoever...

They fact that they are bothering to hold one is proof that they are moving in a direction of connecting with their player base
