So, I have used eve on linux before, as seen in this thread https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&find=unread&t=69762. however, I changed back to windows because of shader issues and not wanting to deal with them. WELL, now that i FEEL LIKE dealing with them, and changed back to linux, eve doesnt even start anymore. I am using the EXACT same computer as listed in the other thread - HP Pavillion dv7 with an i7 core, integrated mobile sandybridge graphics with the OS Ubuntu 11.10. I have taken the time to update wine to 1.4, and ive tried all those little tricks for this new version - such as cleaning out the .wine path, and reinstalling corefonts, vcrun2005,08, and 10 and i ALSO have the client itself running with the DLL overrides msvcr100, 90, and 80 set to builtin then native, but patcher running native then built in. SO, with ALL of this, the launcher actually opens just fine. its the client itself. i have had a million different errors, but now all i get when trying to open it is something from one of the c++ redistributable runtime things saying the program has abnormally terminated, with my terminal showing THIS:

fixme:heap:HeapSetInformation (nil) 1 (nil) 0
fixme:gameux:GameExplorerImpl_VerifyAccess (0x126fb0, L"C:\\Program Files\\CCP\\EVE\\eve.exe", 0x33fd98)
21:00:37: Debug: src/helpers.cpp(140): 'CreateActCtx' failed with error 0x00000103 (no more data available.).
fixme:iphlpapi:NotifyAddrChange (Handle 0x33cfd0, overlapped 0x3beb030): stub

EVE Client version 7.3 build 351477 starting 21:00:57

Starting up Trinity through _trinity_deploy.dll ...
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x338608,0x00000000), stub!
Skipping GameWorld unittests

through the whole situation. Seems to be a network connect error, but i cant be entirely sure because im not as computer proficient as i would like to be.

so, anyone having the same issue and/or HOPEFULLY also have some sort of solution?

Just that hint of cynicism the world needs now and then.

If the patcher fails to download the patch, revert to (native, builtin):

msvcr10 (native, builtin)
msvcr8 (native, builtin)
msvcr9 (native, builtin)
msvcrt (native, builtin)

It should download and patch up fine.
But in order to play the game, you'll have to revert back again:

msvcr100 (builtin, native)
msvcr80 (builtin, native)
msvcr90 (builtin, native)
msvcrt (builtin, native)

Worked for me.Blink

Edit2: Putting msvcrt80 and 90 back to the previous way allows launcher to start...if I have to switch every time it's gonna suck just to start the game

You can configure the DLL overrides for the msvcr* DLLs only for the ExeFile.exe in winecfg. Just click "Add application..." on the applications tab and select the ExeFile.exe from the bin folder of your EvE install folder. If it is selected you can configure the DLL overrides only for this file. That should make the launcher and EvE work without changing the settings every time.

With those tips is worked for me

Now maybe your prefixe is "broken" ? try to make another one ?

Its... a bit long lol. so i just made it a page on my CR profile so i didn't spam up the forums. I know my graphics card kinda sucks but i would't THINK that was the problem because Eve was at least loading last time i tried, which wasnt that long ago. Given, as i've said before, my integrated graphics dont really like shaders in linux, but, it ran.

Btw, i switched over to linux mint 12, and i get the same EXACT thing. Im using the same settings as i was before mind you. Just wanted to check if it was solely a bug in that version of ubuntu (and yes, i know mint is based off ubuntu).

a little update, i dont really know HOW i fixed it, but it started running. I just completely cleared out the wine prefix and started over following all the tips and tricks, and this time it decided to love me. though, not the shaders lol. still having issues with them.

Linux mint 12
wine 1.4
working finally :D

but maybe not the launcher. but no one cares about that thing
