This may be a problem between my and my laptop and not me and EVE but I'm at wit's end and don't know what else to try
I've downloaded last update. (At least to my knowledge - I tried to run Eve on March 16 (Probably March 17 Eve-time) and there was an update to download. So I did.)

When I try to run Eve, it will attempt to apply what was downloaded, with this pop-up window message

Quote:
Ready to Update
The update has been downloaded. The client will now close and the update process begin

Press 'OK' to continue.

I press 'OK' like I have without problem many times before. This time I get another pop-up

Quote:
Run as
You may not have the necessary permissions to use all the features of the program your are about to run. You may run this program as a different user or continue to run the program as the current user

  • Current user (Computer Name\Account Name
  • Run the program as the following user
  • User name: Administrateur
    Password

If I select Current user and click 'OK', the Username and Password get greyed out and I get the message
Quote:
EVE Online updator requires Administrator privilages.

I double-checked: the current (and only) user of my laptop is me and my account (and only account) on this laptop is an administrator account. I can't even make it a standard account

If I select Run the program as the following user, leave the default "Administrateur" (French for Administrator; my Windows 7 OS is set to French) and input my password, I get:
"Erreur
!Échec d'ouverture de session: nom d'utilisateur inconnu ou mot de passe incorrect."
(Roughly: Session start error: username unknown or incorrect password.)

If I select Run the program... and replace "Administrateur" with what the current user is and enter my password, I get the "EVE Online updator requires Administrator privilages" message again.

If I select Run the program... and replace "Administrateur" with "Administrator" and enter my password, I get the"Erreur
!Échec d'ouverture de session: nom d'utilisateur inconnu ou mot de passe incorrect." message again.

My password included a French character so I changed my password to be English letters only. Same results
I can't even start the update process to get to all the other launcher issues I've read about in this section looking for my problem. I'm no techie but this was never an issue before so I would appreciate any help to get the update started. I can't ignore the update requirement to try to log on to Eve without updating; it's not an option - I tried.

Hmm, I also notice that the language button is no longer an option on my taskbar nor do I seem able to put it back on. I don't know if that's connected to the issue of getting Eve updator to recognize me as Administrator of my own laptop but there it is

Please, won't some tech-savvy genius clearly help me out - my paid time runs out Monday and I won't pay for what I can't play though I would quite like to continue playing Eve

Have you already tried right click and "Run as Administrator"?

...Huh...
Worth a shot... okay, that worked. Never had to do that before but hey, no arguments here.
Thanks for the quick and easy fix! Big smile (I'm sure I've right-clicked elsewhere but not the way you mention.)
Now I see the EVE Online Launcher everyone seems to be talking about. It's slowly creating the patch so I assume any problems from here on out will be related to one of the many threads already started.

Thanks again! Big smile

Just to follow up - no apparent issues with the Launcher - I'm in!
Thanks again!
