Leaving Minneapolis on Tuesday afternoon, stopping in Boston to switch airlines, then arriving in Keflavik at 6:30am on Wednesday morning. Taking Flybus Plus to hotel (CenterHotel Arnarhvoll) to check in early and get some sleep, then heading over to Harpa to take the Golden Circle tour. After that gets back, I'll be hitting the Celtic Cross for a meetup with everybody else!

Yeah, baby!

When I finally do make an impact on this universe, it will reverberate across the entirety of it, and no one will be able to truthfully claim they don't know me. - -

Until then, I'll just sit quietly over here, minding my own business...

I just go in this morning. It's raining, there's slush on the ground from some snow, and sulphur is the National Odor. But so far the people have been most excellent and accommodating.

If there are any other early arrivers today (Monday) drop a note here if you want to meet up later in the evening and get a head start on conditioning our livers for the week to come.

If you're lucky, you won't notice it by the time Sunday rolls around.

You do get used to it though.

I have been here for a few days "Going Native". Looking for others who want to get together.

You only see the slush now.. last night it was snowing and windy, it looked like smoke being kicked around.

I got into the country on Saturday, ended up at The Grand and then walking over to the mall to do some basic shopping. Paid cash kr for a "throw away" cell phone, a new coat that looked like something the locals speaking Icelandic actually wore, and got a few sundries at the nearest Hagkaup.

I was flying to Iceland from Boston last night and met some nice fanfest goers there, and then some more flying in from New York at Keflavik airport this morning!

This fanfest will be the best, I can't wait! :3

So what are good places for having a nice dinner in Iceland?

We already got good advice on pubs, but solid food is also quite usefull BEFORE filling up with guinness or any other kind of alcoholic poison.

Does railgun ammunition come in Hollow Point?

Junk food: Bullan, Nonni's, hotdog stand
Bar-style: Islenski Barinn, Hresso
Decently priced resturants: Vegamot, Grillhusid
Expensive but good: Italia, Grillmarket

The neat part was that until the last 500 meters or so, the precipitation was snow... LOTS of snow. I thought we would be landing in quite a blizzard. As soon as we broke through the cloud ceiling, though, it melted to rain. However the aurora during the flight was spectacular.

I came in on FI614 from JFK (New York). I didn't hang around much... just grabbed my bag and got a taxi to my hotel (Odinsve). I saw something about FlyBus but was much too tired to look into it. Others, however, might want to - FlyBus. The FlyBus+ service will pick you up/deliver you to selected hotels. Otherwise, basic service is between the airport and a bus terminal somewhere in Reykjavik.

I might add that American style, TGI Fridays, Ruby Tuesday and Hamborgarafabrikkan are very good more "fancy" burger joints.

If you want to shop cheap = bónus (yellow with a pig as a mascot) groceries and such, there is one in kringlan and one on laugarvegur. there is a third somewhere in town.

Bars - Ölsmiðjan, its a more quiet, relaxed pub esque kinda place, good music most of the time and sometimes live music too. last i heard the polar beer was cheap there too.

10-11 is open 24/7 and is located in central reykjavík, its a tad more expensive than other grocery stores but good to know of if you were to run out of tobacco/need some midnight munchies.
