Same issue.

Only started happening after the launcher (or one of follow up updates) was released.

Never had a problem before.

Currently the whole computer locks up and requires a hard reboot, sometimes 2 mins after I login into the game, at other times I'll get half an hour to an hour out of it.

The system is WinXP SP3 with all the latest patches, GTX560, 4GB Ram.

The temps on everything seem to be fine. GPU temp goes up from 49 to 62-67 when running two clients, but it was doing that before, and didn't have any problems.

Looks like one of the crash fixes that CCP has done for other people actually broke it for me :(

Why does this sound like a Heat issue to me... Not only GPU heat but also Northbridge heat for some of you that say it will freeze, then unfreeze, and things like the soundcard or something else has been disconnected or the like...

I would reccomend some users get HWinfo at http://www.hwinfo.com/ and check the temps of all the devices in your systems while running the game. You will want to click on the Sensors button and then start logging before you start the game, then hopefully it will log up until it either hangs or locks and shows the max temps around that time.

Eve has a weird way of really maxing out system temps easy especially if you set interval to unlimited (pretty much vsync off)

Also a lot of nvidia cards for some dumb reason have auto fans that think 90C+ is ok for extended periods which eve will easily hit (my SLI 560TI setup will on auto every damn time. On Manual with MSI afterburner (which can cause issues with EVE in its own way if improperly setup) can keep the cards at a nice 78-81C max.

I want to ask who here is having this issue, with nvidia, after a fresh reformat with only windows updates and a single Nvidia driver installation?

And who here is having this issue since updating drivers but did not run a drivercleaner on the old drivers?

Finally some of you may also want to run Memtest86 on your comps overnight and see if everything checks out. usually it would affect patching/installing more than playing, but hey in this case you never 100% know where the 1/0 error will crop up and EVE definitly pushes hardware to the point it may show up.

Follow my post and get us the info. That might help narrow down the issue. I had some crazy fun with Nvidia and still have some weird glitch/crashing issues with the latest updates, but at least none have left me completely stranded like some of you appear to be. Hard locks Suuuck.

Also some mention youtube clips while playing and such. I would reccomend not doing ANYTHING especially watching youtube while trying to troubleshoot this issue since Youtube is video, and nvidia has a Video Speed/Processing in their drivers that if it is a driver issue you have, can wreck havok on the troubleshooting since it will be trying to change the gpu speed when one has focus over the other and all sorts of other nasty stuff ( happens even worse when the 3D Vision drivers arent at 100%) so I would reccomend to get this dialed in, do not do anything else in the meantime while your playing.

I did update to the latest whql drivers and used driversweeper in safe mode. I ran memtest over 48 hours without a single error. The temp on my GPU (as shown in MSI afterburner on G15 lcd) is never above 70 celsius with two clients running, both windowed and assigned to their own separate monitor.

To me it looks like it is happening when having 2 accounts active. And I don't lock up completely. My framerate just drops under 10 fps. What I did notice that it seems to be triggered by undocking or jumping to another system. After a few minutes things return to a normal state and my framerate goes up to a capped 60 on both screens with an ocassional drop to 45-50.

Only thing I can try is to look at my motherboard temperatures, but I hardly doubt they are the issue.

Sometimes it locks up for me at the login screen so it seems doubtful that it is a heat problem.

I guess it still could be but locking up within a few seconds doesn't seem to support that.

I'll try running hwinfo.

I'm also still seeing this issue (or a similar one) occurring semi-randomly only while running EVE if I install any nVidia driver newer than 270.61. It results in a black-screen hard-lock of the GPU, but sound in the background (music, TS3 chatter, etc.) continues to play. nVidia's 270.61 driver appears to negate whatever the issue is entirely, as I have not crashed whatsoever in the week since reverting. The revert does however prevent me from playing a number of other games, most notably Battlefield 3 which locks up entirely on this driver (but works fine on anything 285.62 or newer).

I first had it happen recently around the start of March and have previously seen this before the current spate sometime during mid 2011. During that stretch of issues I configured both Telnet and WinSSHd on the affected computer so that I could connect remotely to a console when it occurred in an effort to cause a clean reboot instead of using the reset button, which did work successfully (I was able to remote in and reboot without issue).

System config:
Mobo: EVGA 780i FTW (132-YW-E178-A1), nForce driver 15.58
CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q9650, stock clocks (though previously OC'd to 3.6GHz w/o issue), Thermaltake V1 heatsink
RAM: 8GB Corsair XMS3200 DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15, 2GB x4 (matched pair kits x2), running at 800MHz 5-5-5-18 for stability
GPU: BFG GTX 285 "OCFUBE," factory clocks and cooler, BIOS 62.00.69.00.11, drivers 275.33, 285.62, 290.36, 295.73, 296.10 tested to result in crash among others before reverting to 270.61, PhysX set to Auto in NVCP (binds to GPU)
Display Config: 2x 1600x1200@60 LCDs, DVI, spanned desktop (typical dual-monitor config)
Soundcard: Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Elite Pro, driver 2.18.0015A
PSU: Silverstone 800W
Storage: 2x IDE DVD-R/RW/RAM, 8x SATA drives, capacity varies 250GB-2TB, SMART-monitored as Healthy
OS: Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1 with all available updates applied

EVE graphics settings:
Display: Window mode, 1600x1178 (maximized window on 1600x1200), UI Scaling - 100%, Display Adapter - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 1, Interval immediate, Camera settings at defaults
Center column: All Enabled except Low Quality Characters, Texture Quality Medium
Graphic Content: Resource Cache Enabled - Yes, HDR Enabled - No, Load Station Environment - Yes, Anti-Aliasing - Disabled, Post Processing - High, Shader Quality - High, Texture Quality - High, LOD Quality - Medium, Shadow Quality - Low, Interior Effects - High, Interior Shader Quality - High

To directly address GM Retrofire's post:

A) I don't have a shortcut of this type currently set up. Does it still function with the new builds including the launcher?
(As a capital pilot I can't risk a crash while playing the game normally unless any losses incurred as a result have reimbursement guaranteed in writing beforehand (yes, I know this won't happen), but it would be good to know in case I have a chance to troubleshoot the issue directly, and for anyone else attempting to do so.)

B) I do have Pingplotter installed on all of my computers, but given that I'm experiencing this as a GPU hard-lock and that an additional client instance on a separate computer continued to function normally I don't believe the issue to be network related. That said, this is available upon request if CCP deems it still helpful. EDIT 1: Including this in my petition, 1440 traces, 2.5s interval (one hour).

C) A logserver file would likely not be able to be saved given the GPU hard-lock (unless there's a remote console of some sort for it). If there's a console or a way to set up an auto-save, available upon request.

D) The most recent crashdump is prior to the current occurrences of the issue, but the three I have and any future ones are available upon request. EDIT 1: Including most recent in petition despite probable unrelated.

E) I'll include a copy of this on the Technical petition I'll be filing later today, though it will be with the currently installed 270.61 nVidia driver. I'll also include OpenHardwareMonitor data showing temperature and voltage fluctuations during normal use (everything appears normal to me, CPU does not exceed 55 C on any core, GPU peaks at 80 C).

Petition ID: 2827442

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help resolve this issue beyond the info I'm able to provide currently (and that which will be privately shared with CCP via petition attachments).

Nope. I have a brand new, 3 day old Alienware Aurora R4 that is locking up. It happens to me most of the time when I try to open and/or manuever in the map. Complete system lock up. It has locked up at other times in game as well.

I spent 1.5 hours online and on the phone with Alienware tech support. They put the machine through its paces and found nothing.

I removed and reinstalled the client. I ran the eve repair tool. I've cleared the cache everytime I log on.

Alienware tech support updated checked and/or updated every driver in this box. I updated the drivers for my AMD Radeon 7900.

Since the machine locks up, I am unable to execute a log server.

I have also tried to run it in Windows XP Compatibility Mode and have the same problem.

System Specs:

Alienware Aurora R4
BIOS Date: 02/08/12 15:27:32 Ver: 04.06.05
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60GHz
AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series
OperatingSystem: MS Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (x64)
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio, 5-25-2009, 6.10.0.209
DirectXVersion: DirectX 11
16Gb Quad Channel RAM

I have run other games in the machine such as Farcry without issue.

I'm no computer guru, but this sure looks like a program issue.

A fix would certainly be appreciated.

And where are the responses? Where the people who are now supposed to be responding to us? to the issues we have raised? Are they off creating new effects? does our gun create the effect of a fungal puffball while our client ***** itself?

I have been dealing with the same issue for some months now, also a nvidia user. I can run everything else, skrim, bf3, farcry, crysis at full settings but eve locks my computer up solid. that is unless i turn off my Vipre antivirus altogether. I have gone through the steps with vipre thinking it was a conflict with it but no its not the issue. I have deleted and reinstalled drivers, deleted programs I have installed since the problem started and still eve will not work properly.

I have quite similar specs although a slightly different issue.

2700K, 16gb Vengeance RAM, 256GB Crucial M4 SSD, Asus Z58 board, 2x 6970 in crossfire, Win 7 64bit, ATI 12.3 drivers

Creeping VRAM use (as observed in MSI afterburner) and crashing once or more per day. 0x0A STOP error and computer reboots. Nothing in Error Reporting or viewable by BlueScreenViewer.

Never had this problem (and nothing changed) since I built the machine in Dec and it started happening after latest patch.

Also having this issue. I have thought until I found this thread it was a PC related issue but after switching out the memory, mobo, and finally the graphics card last night the problem still persist.

GTX 560 user as well.

I'm having the same problem. EVE is locking up on me and causing windows to become totally unresponsive. Sometimes I can attempt to close the client but windows remains unresponsive and I have to manually restart the machine. I've tested 3 other games and none of them crash. I can run the client on occasion with full screen mode, but windowed mode definitely crashes 100% of the time.

Update to my previous post. After reading about voltage problems with the ASRock Z68 Extreme4 and after months of adjusting voltages on the board, I decided to replace the board with the ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3. I guess it wasn't a problem with the motherboard, because I'm getting the same crashes with EVE on the ASUS board. I've quadruple checked my memory, and the CPU is fine. There is absolutely no overheating occurring anywhere on my rig. I'm baffled by this. It started with the first Crucible expansion for me. Everything before Crucible was stable. Due to the crashing, I can only provide a DxDiag. Petition filed.

Same thing happening here and started only today. EVE locks up and i need to close it via Task Manager. W7 64-bit system. Never had that problem before. No new installations everything exactly same as was yesterday and hardware tests run ok. Yet today had 4 lockups and simply exited EVE since it's impossible to play like that.

Don't let them fly safe!

Also happening to me. Started around the time the new launcher was introduced (although it probably has no link at all)

I can play for long stretches with no freeze but I can get 2 freezes within an hour sometimes. Can't kill the process, the whole computer is frozen (music/youtube videos stop playing).

It really appears to be totally random. 1 client or 2 running doesn't seem to make a difference, neither does youtube, VLC, iTunes... I've had crashes with only Eve running and with a bunch of other programs running. I have all graphics settings maxed out and playing in Fixed Window mode.

Computer's been the same for years, save for the graphics card, which I replaced a couple of months ago. Had a 8800GT, now have a GTX560 (surprise!).

Cheers!

Intel i7 2700k
8GB ram
2 x ATI 6850s
Windows 7 x64

Has anyone fonund a way to stop this issue yet? I will try and do what the GM said on page 1 tonight.

Same issue here ... total computer freeze from time to time.

Recently upgraded my entire hardware, but the problem remains. Eve is also the only game/program that does that to my computer, thus the issue is clearly on EVE side. I am getting too frustrated and most likely will disable my accounts as I have found no way to solve it over the past 2 months - tried all the "help" provided in this forum and in many others. Sucks big time.
