It's been a bit crowded in the little corner of Stain that I live in recently, and since they're blue I can't shoot them Pirate, so rather than compete over belts or the exploration sites I've been missioning again for the first time in years. My alt never shoots rats so he had decent Sansha's standings. He does couriers in a prowler 'cause it's decent semi-afk money and I can do something interesting while I'm waiting on a roam to form (and can keep doing these missions on my alt while I'm roaming on my main).

Anyway, enough backstory. So last night I got "The Numon Claim" 5-part lv. 4 storyline. Aside from being a loot pinata the likes of which I've never seen in a lv. 4 mission (~500 mil in implants and faction loot), I also ended up with all of these Amarr tags.

I know they're contraband in Amarr space, but my logistics route takes me straight through Tash Murkon and there's really no way to avoid Amarr space. I'm not well verses in how customs works though - can I transfer them to a covops in lowsec and then just go to Rens or something? Will the faction navies aggro on me right away in highsec? (I can avoid them easily enough in a covops, but it's still nice to have heads up).

I've never had troubles due to tags, and wasn't aware they were contraband.

I have been caught with drugs tho, so this is my understanding of the dynamics and some of the 'fix' options. I'm not a smuggler so am far from expert in this area of activity. If your Amarr tags are treated the same way by the local police then you may wish to take a similar approach.

Apparently the local police regularly 'scan' the cargo that you carry. If they detect contraband they offer you the choice of being popped or relinquishing the contraband, paying a fine, and taking a standings hit. I believe that you're unable to jump at a gate or dock once this has happened.

I've read (somewhere else in the forums) that fast cloaky ships allow you to avoid police scanners ... just as they allow you to avoid piwate scanners. I've never tested this approach tho.
I have, some time ago, successfully hauled contraband items in the corporate hangar of my orca ... on the understanding that it cannot be scanned.

If those tags are treated as contraband, like drugs, then I expect you would be at risk of being scanned by the local police as soon as you enter hisec. Given that that entry is probably going to be a 0.5 or 0.6 system I'd guess that the local cops won't be as diligent as you may find in a 1.0 system. I'd probably try to get the small-volume contraband from null, thru low, to hisec in a covops frig, blockade runner, or a 'nullsec hauler' setup T3. Once in hisec, if they're worth a bundle, I'd transfer to an orca's corp hangar and use it to move them thru hisec. Alternative you could pop the orca into the lowsec border system and transfer from your cloaky there ... but they are damn slow aligning and warping and even with the MWD-trick they seem to take forever when you're in low/null :-)

Now, my advice could be completely wrong or / and out-of-date ... but it's the best I an offer in an attempt to assist.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

Orca corp hangar is no longer unscannable by police. It is unscannable by other players.

Ah, Stain logistics. Separating the men from the insane men.

Some time ago CCP made the Empire Insignia drops - Faction Dog Tags - legal to transport and are no longer classified as contraband.

I just completed the Amarr Level 4 Epic Arc which has a couple missions in it where you have to destroy renegade Amarr ships that drop Amarr tags. No problem transporting those Tags in Amarr space.

An item is contraband if it has a little skull icon in the corner of the item icon. By showing info on it there will be a 'Legality' tab listing the various Factions and the penalty they impose if you're caught with the item.

Also I think CCP buffed the NPC Customs Officers with ability to scan all ships on both sides of Jump Gates now. Maybe to encourage use of 'Snake' implants for smuggling?

Seems not all items have the little skull icon showing such as Slaves, maybe that's due to me being in Amarr space but it's always a good idea to show info and check if it has a 'Legality' tab.

CCP might have missed a few different items. Anyway, definitely check info first on any questionable items before transporting.
