As for your original topic I've seen much higher server loads than 50k. The shard is fine.

Jita crashed nearly every single Sunday in 2007/2008

You can see how be unable to support the "sunday populatoin' has effected the bottom line of the company.

It scares me that a player can become so attached to the game. I mean, look at the OP's behavior. Can't you just see somebody falling to the floor, drumming their heels and screaming at the top of their voice in the supermarket? Lol you think a small reboot is bad? Rewind 4 or more years and after every patch there would be an extra 3 or 4 days downtime to sort out bugs and the population of the game still grew so stop moaning
