I suggest the OP goes and takes an Agony-Unleashed PvP-Basic class/roam.

You ought to find it very relevant as its all about "hydra" frigate fleets/gangs. In fact they have one coming up at the end of the month.

Alternatively have a read of their wiki :

Nobody's mentioned Tracking Disruptors. Bring Tracking Disruptors. Lots of Tracking Disruptors.

Frigate fleets are exactly what we take out with our PvP Basic Class.... We have one on March 30/31rst...

PvP Basic Enrollment

Believe it or not, logistics can be problematic in large engagements of Frigs vs Tanky BC's, etc.... While the frigs have excellent EWAR, they pop a lot easier than tanky ships, and often there is a race to see if the frigs can negate the logistics before too many of them (jammer specifically) die...

I'd highly recommend going on a frigate roam with the Agony folks. The PvP basic class is a lot of fun, you'll learn a lot, and you'd be surprised what a well organized group of frigates can take down in short order.

The problem with frigate fleets in general is that there are a lot of ships that enemy fleets can bring to completely **** on them. Logistics is unduly effective against frig fleets due to their smaller DPS. Drones become disproportionately effective as a single primary cannot shoot down the drones of 20 hostiles. Just one or two Curses will shut down a lot of frigates. Webs can be stacked to make speed pointless.

The advantages of frigate fleets are price but, most importantly, agility. No frigate fleet should ever really get caught. Assuming competent pilots and FC, it should have complete control over who it engages. I agree with the OP; I think frig fleets are underused.

I think that these points mostly come down to how much Intel you have on the enemy fleet.

Frigates have hulls exceptionally good at procuring Intel.

It all kind of ties in nicely, really. You can't fight just any kind of fleet with a frigate fleet, but theoretically you can avoid the majority of would-be disasters.

At any rate... Would be nice to see a Corp that specialized in this kind of thing despite it's weaknesses. There are still some ships that would be useful to run in this kind of doctrine and I think unduly limiting yourself is unnecessary in these circumstances - for instance, maybe you want to play around with BLOPs, you'll want Blockade Runners. If you want to use Stealth Bombers, you're going to want Dictor launchers, etc. This is assuming you decided to do anything in 0.0, naturally.

Let us know if you go ahead with this and report back with success stories. ;)

Depends on what you want to accomplish...

For Small Gang PVP Frigates are great.

Long Point Interceptors + Long Range Stealth Bombers + Kitsune = WIN even against much larger fleets

This. Everyday, this.

We took a 7 man frigate gang with a cloaky scimitar into Providence several hours ago.
2 hounds, a slicer, a vengeance, a hookbill, a jag, and a hyena = 2 billion ISK destroyed in faction fit ships, including a Dominix, a Tengu, an Oracle, a Rupture, a Curse, an arbitrator, and a couple frigates.

Bastard fleet comp, but lots of fun, and except for our scimitar support, all frigates.

Most Definitely viable, OP.

I don't always post on the forums, but when I do, I prefer posting with my main.

Frig based fleet are extremely effective at fighting 4-5 men gatecamp , also can be used to run 0.0 chokepoints. Of course T2 frig are better but even T1 frig like rifters, incursus, kestrel or punishers with T2 guns/missiles are very good at it . And the good thing is you dont need a lot of them

7 or 8 T1 frig with T2 guns will take down BCs very fast and a dozen will kill a BS pretty fast as well. Once you get the hang of it , upgrade to AF and run low sec empires pipes.

For WH , its generally not advisable to warp to an anom in a frig sized ship, you can do it but don t expect to stay very long in your ship For 0.0, just run throaway frigs and dont plan on getting back to empire in it, that's it .

For corp defence, once the element of surprise gone, your ennemy will just bring anti frig fitted ships and will take you out. Just use BC and do the best you can with them.
