DSTON "Adopt A Grandparent" Initiative.

The Disciples are initiating what we hope will be a very brief program. Among the many former slaves we have taken in is a small group of very aged men and women. These four women and three men are near the end of their lives and are weak and frail. Medical technology is capable of extending their lives for a great many years, but they do not wish it. What they wish is to return to Minmatar space and die with dignity. What is unique about these 7 is that they have no family. That, is what they need.

They were rescued slaves already of great age without family connection. None of them know even their tribe or clan for sure. While they are loved and accepted in our centers, they just want to die in Minmatar space. They don’t want to be hospitalized. They don’t want to be institutionalized. They want respect and kindness as their time arrives. Most of all they don’t want to die in Amarr space.

We have established a community of former slaves in Pator, but they are all young men and not exactly the caregiving type. We have our educational center in Korama, but it is not set up for this kind of need; it is a busy place. We are looking for more of a quiet, home-like environment.

This is where you come in. We are looking for capsuleer pilots to adopt these aged former slaves. Do you have families that would be interested in taking in someone approaching the end of their life? You need not be the one who provides the care. Maybe a non-capsuleer parent or brother or sister would be where they would stay.

We have applied to Concord and obtained a modified status for these seven people as “injured slaves.” What this means is that it is legal to transport them in any high security space. That simplifies things. We are willing to transport them to their new homes. We only ask that you indicate your interest and let us know what provision you will make for their care. Tell us your location and we will set up a time to bring them to you. Again, there are four aged women and three aged men.

This is an opportunity for you to do something truly good. But, understand that it may not be easy. End of life care can be demanding, especially emotionally. We do hope that we will be able to place all seven soon.

If you wish to participate, please contact me, Manwe Todako.

Thank you.

I have a great respect for the elderly; they often have much wisdom to share from their experiences. I'll have to discuss it with Kyllsa and Avlynka, but I think living among the Ko'Mak would be healthy for these people. From what I've observed, the young people in the Ko'Mak sub-tribe share my respect for the elderly and enjoy their company and life-stories.

But I shouldn't speak for a clan I'm not yet a member of. Just a suggestion I'll have to take up with the clan leaders and Shamans.

We will be happy to provide these people a comfortable place to spend their last years, if they wish to live among us.

Mikramurka is not exactly a sunny beach, but they will have companionship and care.

Pawning off workers who have reached an age of retirement to go to the war front... Disgusting.

Obviously there is little the D-ston wont do.

You again. Who said anything about workers? Surely you can come up with a better criticism than that.

Its easy to see though such a lie. We all know very well your criminal nature, this is obviously just another attempt at supplying personnel to milita forces.... Like always, under the guise of humanitarian work.

Its shallow and wrong.

Your entire institution of slavery is exactly as you just described: a theologically-backed lie to gain cheap labor under the guise of salvation.

It makes me sad that some would try to politicize this by changing the subject or misrepresenting what's actually going on.

Please study your astrogeography, Thgil. Matar is nowhere near the warzone. If there is conflict with the Amarr in Pator, it is most certainly not planet-side, much less in Mikramurka. People there live by the sweat of their brow, yes, but also with dignity and much respect.

One principle that we strive to uphold at the Disciples of Ston is the individual right to self-determination. This isn't always the easiest thing to do. Sometimes those we rescue or receive decide to go places with people with whome we do not agree. We honor that choice.

Thanks for the response. So far we have an offer from True Slave Foundations to provide a place of comfort within Minmatar space for any who wish to spend their final days before death. We also have an offer from Teraa Matar for a home in Pator. We are placing both offers before the group of seven. We don't what will be chosen yet. We are going to take some time also and see if others step forward. We appreciate the response and will let the community know what happens.

The Seekers will happily provide refuge and spiritual counsel for these people at the sanctuary of As-Salam Muhaymin. If you have any questions please feel free to contact myself or the Amir Koronakesh. Multiple options for the aged are always a good thing.

I will gladly adopt them. They will have their own farm where they will enjoy growing crops all day long. They could also pet and feed cute fluffy dogs as long as they don't leave the perimeter. At night they'll be able to lie down in the open field and count the stars to help them fall asleep.
