Just how much does CCP contribute to the economy of Iceland?

Iceland pop = 320,000, with a 2011 est GDP of 11.8 billion US dollars.

Iceland was extremely hard hit when the u.s. banks' debt derivative ponzi scheme failed, and the Krona is in such a bad way Iceland is looking at adopting the Euro or the Canadian dollar as its' currency.

CCP brings in a lot of hard currency into the country in Euros and u.s. dollars.

I am really curious what the Icelandic gov't thinks of CCP within the context of supporting the Icelandic economy.

We as a nation must rely on this one company to keep us afloat, even if they did recently lay off some employees of their own.....

…so less than a twentieth of a percent (375k × $15 = $5.6M).

Thought GDP was yearly? so ... 67,500,000 (375k * 15 * 12) ... or half a percent.

Then again, I suck at this stuff...

Um....375k x $15 x 12 = 67.5 million.

Jeez...people post to this thread fast. So yeah its like 1 or 2 percent...still really good for one company.

…that, or I've used up my thinking quota for the day. Oops

Speaking of which, how many are coming to fanfest? That alone should add another million or three.

67.5 mil / 11.8 bil = .005 or a half percent. Am I missing something?

If they have bad accountants that money might actually end in Iceland.

Yeah, I did the math of 0.5%.
And yes, that does not even factor in Fanfest.

But I am also wondering on the impact of the hard currency it brings in.
GDP includes everything a country produces.

CCP essentially produces a service that I imagine brings in a ton of foreign currency into the country.
Sure, a lot of it then gets paid back out to England. Atlanta, and China, but I would love to see what kind of impact CCP has on the balance of trade for Iceland.

Getting back to the pure revenue of CCP, and making a VERY incorrect assumption that all of its revenue is in U.S. dollars, let's assume CCP's revenue is 0.57% of Iceland's GDP.

Scaling that up to the size of the U.S. economy, that would put CCP's revenue at around 83 billion. That would be on par with corps like Citigroup, Wells Fargo, and Proctor and Gamble.

I guess CCP is indeed a monster within the Icelandic economy.

There is also PLEX to consider. Lots of them are blown up or not used for subs but AUR too. HD Streams and Fanfest tickets...

Pretty sure Iceland went bankrupt before the 2008 crash in the US. In any case, it had little to do with it.

Given that Iceland is thinking about dropping their own currency for either the Canadian Loony or the Euro and given the state of their economy, I would bet CCPs contribution is rather significant. There's also fish. ...and Bjork, Sigur Rós, and Röyksopp.

I knew that Iceland's population was pretty small compared to other places in the world but I had no idea that the continent consisted of CCP's headquarters, a US air base, and a fishing dock.

First time I heard of Iceland was in Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising. They got invaded by the Russians. I guess in the end the Russians were promised vast tracts of space in Eve in exchange for Iceland's freedom.
