Finding a WH to live in

Hello friends!

My tiny little corp is looking to move into a WH to see if we like it - C1 or C2 to get a feel for now. To this end I found a nice little C2 WH with a Highsec static and a C1 static. Seems perfect. There are Three Pos' in the system though, owned by different corps however all in the same alliance.

I had a look at static mapper (i think?) which indicated no activity in the WH for the last 48 hours. All of the corps are active on the battleclinic killboards, however none have been involved in a kill in that WH for over a month. This made me think maybe they've moved on. However, all the POS shields were active, all the guns, jammers all that jazz were online.

I logged in every night for a week and scanned the system down. It appears none of the sights were being run and there was no movement.

So...the questions is, how do I know if I was going to have a **** fight if I tried to take my corp to the WH? And if I did, should we attempt to clean out the Pos' or just ignore them?

Finally, is there any guides that people are aware of that would help me find an appropriate WH to try out living in one?

While three active towers in a system is not a huge deal to clean out, it would simply not be worth the effort if your sole motive is to find a C1 or C2 to inhabit. If you wanted a higher class hole, an invasion is a viable moving in route. You mention your corp is tiny also so if you come across alliance level resistance it then adds to the effort required.

Simply just buy a hole of that class for a few hundred M, or find a hole with the static you require and then check the static daily for an empty hole.

Also don't take inactivity for their ability to field a defense. They may just be spending their riches occupying themselves in other areas......Until they get that exciting mail that will promise them a fight.

It's definitely active. And with 3 towers not worth the hassle. Either:

1. Keep searching. I actually found the WH I am living in on my own (Im working on moving out as well, if you want a C1)
2. Sell forums
3. taggart WH sales mailing list. They just listed a C2 with static C1 and HS yesterday.

Well i am acting more like a locust.

As i am explorer my main goal was, to be able to live without a station for weeks, even months if necessary. Though i've to admit, that i am not groing for Gravs or Ladars, since those are much too storage intense.

Wormholes always were and are an interesting option for me. But with 2 toons the following considerations brought me to the locust-life

- having placed a POS needs lot of fuel, firepower, storage and production facilities. Else it is a huge invest and risk for a few dollars more.
- transporting that stuff needs a big hauler and consequently refueling.
- the risk of being attacked is existing - though the lower the class, the smaller the risk, since capitals cant jump in, and battleships might be possible to handle.
- to keep the system relatively clean from enemies, it becomes very time consuming.

So i prefer to have an orca as my moving station, having all the ships and equipment plus ammo with me. That still leaves me enough storage room for items to put in, but i have to leave the gravs and non combat ladars, and use cruiser class instead of battleship size, which works up to plexes class 4/5.

So i can swap ships in space, can be invisible if i want, and have enough support for months. That enables wormholes up to class 3 for me.

Simply i let myself more or less drift through space by taking all possible opportunities including jumps into wormholes, clear them and jump out after a few hours through the next fitting wormhole that appears, most i use the same wh i came in with. That way i can make enough ISK, dont risk ships too offensively and enjoy the game itself by being nearly everywhere from high to low to nullsec to whs :)

Unless your primary desire is PvP and to learn about POS-busting efforts, then you may be best to move on and look for a different C2. That one has three active POSes so unless you can either taunt them into packing up and leaving, or you want to setup there yourself and 'share', you will probably have a fight on your hands.

You can take the system by force, but would it be worthwhile to you.

If you decide against trying to 'take' that system then you have a number of options, including:
- keep on scanning and checking systems yourself;
- post a [WTB] advertisement in the appropriate market forum;
- keep a watch on the [WTS] system ads .... C2s come up often;
- keep and eye on established w-space vendors (e.g. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ah0sgrLMBOEtdFpKY29XNndfSy1jSk96X2kyckF6SXc#gid=0 ... and I see they have a nice C2 static-C3/hisec on the blocks atm).

Good luck.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

I have recently noticed that staticmapper is not showing any activity in WH's. You should always double check with wormnav.com

If there are 3 towers up with force fields they're still active even if there have been no kills in the last 48 hours.

They're probably letting the wormhole respawn, or they've been focusing more heavily on PI/pvp or some other activity.

Keep looking for a C1/C2 with appropriate bonuses/high-sec exit; when you find one either with no towers or no ACTIVE towers it's probably safe to assume that it is un-occupied.

For a nominal fee there are several exploration corps that will provide you with bookmarks to locate an uninhabited wormhole; this is also a service I would provide if you want any assistance locating a wormhole.

We recently evicted someone from a C2. Three guys in bombers did the initial work, incapping their guns and testing their defenses. Turns out there was nothing they could do. We never had more than a half-dozen people on the POS bash. It took a while, but the job was done and we got our hole.

In my opinion, C1s are vastly underrated by the community. I can make really good isk/hour in them. Don't live in one though, get something with a C1 static.

Get a ship with a covert op cloak and check out the poses. It may be that the poses are for reactions, research, etc and tge group does not run sites.

Alternatively, run ops to run the sites while you think no one is home. Clear the sites and funs a new wormhole.

Or, contact the corp. You never know, the corp may have been podded out and will pay a ransom to get back in.
