Hi all,

I have noticed some disparate reports of client performance issues with the release of Crucible 1.5. To assist us in diagnosing these issues, please submit bug reports via bugs.eveonline.com, ensuring that you attach your DxDiag file (or PLIST for Mac users). Measurements of the FPS level you are getting in space and in station (hangar and CQ) would also be good to know. You can get the FPS measurement by pressing Ctrl-F in-game. Title the report "Crucible 1.5 Performance Issue" for easy filtering please.

I am experiencing severe performance issues since the last major patch. Please excuse that I am too bitter to help you diagnose the, obvious, underlying problem. (Never mind explaining what DxDiag means, or how to get a DxDiag file.)

I am, however, very sure that I would have made many bug reports in the past, and saved your GM team some time, if the process of reporting bugs was better explained at an easily accessible place. Like, let's say, your in-game bug report system. I especially like the part where I have to enter my password, while I am already logged in.

I wont yell or rant, I have one thing to say however:

Please, get a better QA department.

Get a wider range of machine types, from low-end to high end, with various amounts of memory and such.

Do this for both Windows and Macintosh.

If you have this hardware already, then somebody isn't doing their job.

Fire them and hire people who will do this process correctly.


Crucible 1.5:

Windows launcher crashing, or not working, or not installing.

Macintosh client losing nearly half FPS, or not launching at all.

These are not things we should be seeing at this point in EvEs development.
These are not things we should be seeing from the team who have been working with this game for almost 9 years.

Thanks to those who have submitted bug reports about the performance issue. We currently have some experts investigating and diagnosing this issue and hope to have it resolved soon.

For those who have commented negatively on our QA department, I would ask you to consider that you are placing blame without an understanding of our software development lifecycle or our internal organisational structure. Our QA department is composed of skilled, experienced professionals who are in highly challenging roles.

If you have questions about QA, and are coming to Fanfest, please attend the QA roundtable and discuss them with me, CCP Dren and our QA team. For those not coming to Fanfest, I hope to release a dev blog in the near future to explain some changes that we have made as to how we approach QA as an organisation.

Not sure if it's a performance issue or not but lately, it seems to take a few seconds longer for things to load when I undock. Like I undock, and it takes 5+ seconds for the station to appear.

I would appreciate CCP making it easier to bypass the launcher. Every time there is an update, I have to launch my client from my install's bin folder as the launcher will simply not display

hmm, can't reproduce it. station shows up within a second or 2 now. I'll keep watching

The patcher is slow and fast, doesn't seem to be any ryhm or reason for it. I used to be able to run multiple clients but now my CPU spikes on a couple different cores. Logging into station or out is slow when both clients running, including a massive drop of fps with more than 1 client up at a time. I'm just reporting here and not worrying about DxDiag. Your QA should be able to easily reproduce this if they had the tools and computers to try it out. 4x subs expire in 2 days and moving on. GL.

For those who are criticising CCP QA Department have no idea how difficult it is testing software that is running on x number of different hardware and software configurations.

Let me put it in perspective for you.

Every single person who logs onto Eve will be using a different Hardware and Software configuration, i.e no two players will have the same machine.

So we are talking about tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousand of different machine configurations, both hardware and software.

Yes CCP can account for basic stuff.. a handful of different hardware configurations with nothing but the OS and essential drivers. What they can not account for is all the other crap and weird and wonderful set-ups people may have.

Its all well and good saying "My machine has this processor, x number of ram, super duper GPU but that does not account for what driver combination your using, what other software you have installed.

Yes I am sure CCP use UAT boxes, but this only proves that the software works in a very limited scope.

I have worked as a build engineer (designing builds to work on machines for a major aerospace company) and the biggest problem I faced was trying to get people to understand that having a UAT box in the grand scheme of things means very little.

All it proves is that your software will work on a fresh installation with no other software. Whether it then works in conjunction with x amount of other applications is another matter, and then 6 months down the line when god knows what has been installed and un-installed.

The fact that a very small number of people in total are having issues is a major testament to CCP QA Team.

I won't bother creating a bug report, but for the last two days (March 19th) since that update I'm getting regular disconnects. Please note that I am on two different physical machines, three different physical installations, two different physical locations, and two different internet service providers (AT&T and Charter Communications). Last single disconnect was nearly a year ago, and I've had five (5) in two days.

All machines Windows 7 on wired (ethernet) networks, but please note what I said above before blaming ISP.
