Abbadon or Legion for Lvl 4 Missioning?

I'm a new player (only ~800,000 sp,) and I'm currently looking to make a long-term skill training plan for myself to not screw with my skills any more than I already have. I decided that since I will inevitably be spending most of my time doing missions I should probably work on getting to that point first, with skills to use a frigate in PvP thrown in there somewhere. (help with prioritizing skills would be nice, but that's not this question.)

My question is this: Which ship is better/which ship would I be better off in the long-run training for (for incursions, PvP, etc. on top of the L4 missions I asked about in the title)? Reasons and examples, if you would be so kind.

I'd like to start specializing as soon as possible to actually be somewhat competitive. This question isn't actually limited to these ships; I'm just using them as examples. Legion will be a bit too expensive for quite some time, I know, and will take something like twice as long to train to competency. I will make due in the meantime.

If any of the other ships would be better suited, other than the Apocalypse (and ships using that hull,) I wouldn't be opposed to using them either. I already have ranks in Caldari ships as well, but I WILL NOT train missiles at the moment. I can tolerate hybrids, but I hear most of those are bad for missions. Too bad the Naga is one of my favorite looking ships in the game. I have Caldari ranks because I originally had planned to go for a Nightmare, while doing PvP in a Harpy, but similar training times (if I want to actually be able to use it properly, anyway,) and higher costs when compared to the Legion have made me consider it as an alternative.

I won't be able to respond for a few hours, so I might as well answer this now: I know the Drake/Tengu are currently the FOTM ships to do missions in, and for good reason, but I'd rather not train missiles yet. I probably will eventually, but not yet. It's just a personal taste thing. It's the same reason I won't train Minmatar ships yet; they're hideous, with a couple exceptions (Hurricane, Maelstrom, and Loki look good, rest not so much IMO.)

Also, yes I am aware that I overuse parenthesis.

There is one reason above all not to specialize in Amarr for PVE. Limited damage types.
Do you want to spend months of training to be good only against certain types of NPCs?
Even in Amarr space you will get missions that have NPCs resistant to EM/Therm.
Not to mention if you end up in nullsec ratting EM/Therm resistant NPCs you will be frustrated.
At 800,000 SP you have virtually no sunk costs to prevent you from switching races.

So what are the top missions ships then?
T1 BS: Raven, Dominix
Marauder: Golem, Vargur
Faction/Pirate BS: Machariel
T3 Cruiser: Tengu
Fly any one of these with good skills and you have a reliable ISK income source.
Which is not to say other BS cannot work too, but you must as well train for the best right?

If your dead set on amar, as above, it limits your targets or raises the difficulty. That being said the T3s are very viable in L4s. But they must be actively played to do so. Where as with a XLB raven or Domi you warp in warm up the tank and thats about it. The T3 require you to keep active control to keep up transversal and keep ranges.

If your against missiles (aka tengu) then Id say push drone skills and get a double rep domi for your "best" easy mode L4 runner.

heres my .02 ISK

Nightmare:
+ VERY good at sansha/blood raiders/serpentis/rogue drone missions
+ one of the best incursion ships
+ little to no ammo costs
+ does not need T2 turrets to be effective

- semibad at gurista/angel missions (not impossible but tedious)
- slow as ****
- cap management necessary (unless you want to fly cap stable which you shouldn't)

Machariel:
+ very good damage against all rat types
+ fast and agile for a battleship
+ Winmatar
+ strong in pvp

- T2 turrets almost mandatory
- ammo costs

the only amarr ship that comes close to the top two is the paladin, so if you want to fly armor tank over shield tank, you should look into that.

I should buy an Ishtar.

Amarr ships are just fine to mission in, their range projection makes up for their lack of "correct" damage type in none blood/sansha NPC's.

The Abaddon is probably the balls out best amarrian ship to run missions in untill you start looking at the navy apoc (the T1 variant doesnt have the right fitting ability, and the navy has a juicy extra low slot), nightmare, or paladin. The legion just wont be able to project its damage far out enough, and it will onl do about 2/3rds of the damage that the abaddon does. It also wont have drones.

I had perfect capacitor skills before I got into a battleship, which is why I jumped straight into an abaddon, from there save isk for the navy apoc (wont do as much dps as the abbie but will project much better) and eventually the paladin/nightmare.

Use the legion for vangaurds, pvp, and wormholes.

Run the Abbadon if you don't have a lot of isk and think you may lose it to a bad situation. It's an amazing boat to fly being just into Battleships with Amarr. I did lose one to an Angel mission long ago, but that was because I wasn't taking out the tackle when it first got onto me.

Run the Legion if you have the isk / skillset to properly support it. You can run any L4 Mission in either boat, and the Legion also has a good HAM Subsystem to fall back onto should you run into an NPC Mission that has High EM / Therm Resist (some Mordus Ships, some Angels, etc). It's not the best Strategic for PVE, but it does have good strongpoints.

It's all about preference and playstyle. Nothing more. Opinions should only go so far.

Nevermind, I'm an idiot anyway. I just realized that most of the stuff I'd train for the Legion I'd want to train for the Abbadon anyway. I just need to train the Battleship skill and the Large Energy Turret skill. Basically I just need to throw 2 days' worth of training in there somewhere for BS 3 and Large Energy Turret 3, and possibly throw level 4's in there somewhere. That way I have a ship I can use while I'm waiting for the ~billion ISK to buy the Legion, and to grind out the 17 days of training for Cruiser 5.
